Why is this species invasive?
they are invasive because they reproduce so quickly, they have a long matting season (February through September) they also have anywhere from 1 to 14 rabbits in a littler and mate more than once in a season. If we are not careful this species could take over the grasslands and become one of a few species to live there.
Could this species come to Texas?
The answer to that question is yes, rabbits are herbivores which means they feed on plants. Texas has an ample supply of grasses and plants for rabbits to feed on. They could also easily live in this environment, in fact they already do live in Texas.
