Elementary School- November 1st, 2021

A note from the Principal

Dear HCS Families,

We have had a fantastic month here- it’s been incredibly busy, and the progress the students are making has been astounding! Staff is collaborating more than ever and our entire team is excited to share with you, the growth your children have shown. It's hard to believe this Friday is the last day of marking period 1. Teachers will be reaching out soon to schedule parent-teacher conferences, which will take place on November 19th, 22nd, and 23rd. Please note that all of these days are half days for elementary students. For in-person conferences, parents will receive report cards at the conference. For virtual or phone conferences, report cards will go home with students prior to the conference.

Instructionally, our students have been getting all of the help they need to be successful. We have completed assessing students for fall growth measures in reading and math and have collected great information to help guide our instruction and tailor our teaching to our students’ needs. Growth measures have been established using Fountas & Pinnell (F&P) and iReady assessments. Coaches, intervention providers and classroom teachers have had the opportunity to meet as grade level teams to review the data for each and every student. Fall assessments also help to determine individual and small group needs for instructional differentiation (on, above, or below grade level), intervention, and enrichment.

We have also been focusing on our Bulldog 4- Re Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Kind, and Be Safe. These drive what we have already established and will guide our additional schoolwide growth each and every day. Please help us to reinforce these at home as your partnership is vital to the success of our students. I encourage you to reach out if you have questions or concerns, as my door is ALWAYS open.

Thank you Honeoye Families!

From the MTSS Coordinator

We are thankful!

Dear Families,

As we prepare to take a short break from school for Thanksgiving, we want to express our gratitude for everyone who makes it possible for as many students as possible to come to school every day, on time, ready to learn. We thank:

  • Our students and families for making daily attendance a priority since they know the habit of attendance will help them do well in the classroom and eventually in a job
  • Our wonderful teachers who pour their energy into making each classroom an exciting place for exploration and knowledge so children do not want to miss out on learning
  • Our transportation staff for bringing our students safely to school each day
  • Our support staff and community who provide extra hands and attention our children need

We especially appreciate everyone's efforts to avoid taking extra days off during the Thanksgiving Holiday. It’s tempting to extend your vacation by a few days, but remember, those days count as absences. We also know and understand that this is a hard time, and some absences may be due to illness or other challenges like Covid-19 quarantine. However, this makes it even more important to avoid other missed days, such as for vacation. It's important that your child is in school every day, right up until vacation starts. Our teachers will be teaching, and our students will be learning!

Technology Corner

Just a reminder that the Digital Equity Survey that Mr. Wickham sent out via ParentSquare is due by November 23. Please reach out to him if you have any questions or would like some help completing the survey.

OCTOBER: RESPECT AND RESPONSIBILITY

Last month's character trait was Respect and Responsibility. Students were provided with a daily example of Respect and Responsibility, and engaged in discussions surrounding The Bulldog Four, including what Respect and Responsibility look like in every area of the school.

NOVEMBER: GRATITUDE AND THANKFULNESS

Gratitude is good for us! This month, students will be striving for a Gratitude Attitude. Teachers will be engaging students in conversation and reflection activities to help students move into a more genuine exploration of gratitude--beyond lists of what we are thankful for--and considering why the person did it, what the cost was, and what benefits they received from the act.

There are 4 parts to the experience of gratitude:

  1. What we NOTICE in our lives for which we can be grateful
  2. How we THINK about why we have been given those things
  3. How we FEEL about the things we have been given
  4. What we DO to express appreciation in turn

Check out this resource for an article about nurturing gratitude!

What a tremendous turn out for our Halloween Parade! Thank you families, for joining us in celebrating one of Honeoye's cherished traditions. It was quite a sight to see! So many families were there alining the loop and cheering on the students as they paraded by. Even Deputy Potter joined in on the festivities, riding in on a pink flamingo!
