A Message from PRMS Principal, Kevin Croft
Happy Friday Parents,
We had an extremely successful week of learning and your students are doing an amazing job settling into their classes. I am seeing students engaged in learning and happy to be here at Polly Ryon. As I have said before, we believe that if we can get kids wanting to come to school, the learning comes natural. Also, I have personally witnessed great character traits from large groups of our Longhorns and I'm very proud to be their Principal.
I'm truly impressed with this group of students and I attribute this to your outstanding parenting. Please know your hard work as a parent is noticed and appreciated.
COVID-19: I have received numerous emails about COVID concerns and the emails received by parents. Please rest assured that Polly Ryon follows ALL District guidelines in concerns with Covid-19. If you receive an email regarding a positive case in your child's class, this is an awareness email to monitor your student. If you have any concerns or questions, please email me at kcroft@lcisd.org.
Labor Day: We will not have school on Monday due to the Labor Day holiday and classes will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021. I will quote my son, "Three day weekends are better than two." Children are so wise.
Color Out: Our FIRST COLOR OUT is next FRIDAY, Sept. 10, 2021. I am very excited to see all of our Longhorns dressed up in their HOUSE colors representing Polly Ryon.
Picture day: Picture Day has been rescheduled for Monday, October 11th.
Lunches: Starting on Tuesday, September 7th, parents will be allowed to eat lunch with their students. As per Lamar CISD COVID-19 guidelines, we may only have 3 visitors per lunch period and you can only sit with your specific student. Please use the LUNCH SIGN-UP button above to request your day to visit our campus. Thank you for your patience and we look forward to seeing you in the Cafeteria!
House Shirt: If you would like to purchase a Polly Ryon HOUSE shirt, please use the button above to place your order. All orders placed will be delivered to the school and distributed to your student. The deadline is Monday, September 6th.
Class Happenings: As you may be aware, Polly Ryon LOVES interactive learning activities. This section is a highlight from the week of fun and engaging activities that your student participated in during their classes.
ELAR: Positive Ping Review Game for Signposts
MATH: "Absolute-ly" Valuable Escape the Room House Challenge
SCIENCE: Microscope Lab
SOCIAL STUDIES: Map Part Picture Investigation Gallery Walk
PE: Protect the Line
BAND: Band students made their first sounds this week.
ART: Art students created Line Art with shaving cream
Library: Dragon taming escape the library!
As always, please check out the Official Polly Ryon Facebook for videos and pictures.
All-in-all, I am loving this year. This group of students are collectively Rockstars in terms of character, kindness, honesty, motivation, so on, and so on, and so on.
I hope everyone has a tremendous 3 day weekend.
Thank you,
Kevin Croft
Principal

Last Week's Smore
A Message from PRMS Principal, Kevin Croft
We MADE IT!!
One week down and I hope your students are as excited about school as we are!
Your students have done an amazing job this week acclimating to 6th grade and the Polly Ryon Way. I am highly impressed with their level of academic knowledge, their acclimation so quickly into secondary and their overall manners. GREAT job parents!
Next week is a light week in terms of events, but next weekend is Labor Day weekend and LCISD is off on Monday, Sept. 6, 2021.
Slide Day: Your student slid into their House today. This is an energetic and exciting time for students when they find out what House chose them! Please see House descriptions at the bottom of this Smore Newsletter and check out the Official Polly Ryon Facebook page for pictures and videos.
Lanyards: Your student has been issued their House lanyard. This lanyard is the Official Polly Ryon lanyard and is required to be worn during the school day, every day. Additionally, we have issued their photo ID from Polly Ryon. Extra lanyards can be purchased for $5 through the library from 7:30 AM-8:00 AM, every morning, in the event a student loses the original.
PE: Please remember that students will not dress out for PE in the 1st 2-weeks of school. The coaches use this time to aid students with procedures, IDs, Slide day, and lockers. PE uniforms can be purchased at any time during PE class within these 1st 2-weeks for $20 per set.
Schedule Changes: Schedule changes can no longer be requested as class leveling has been completed.
House Shirt: Remember to purchase your Polly Ryon House shirt using the button at the top of the Smore Newsletter.
Parking Lot: THANK YOU PARENTS! This has been the most efficient year yet. I know we can't control the traffic at 762, but loading 8-10 cars at a time has been a beautiful thing to watch. Thank you for following the attendants directions, pulling forward, issuing us patience, and working as a team to get your student loaded and headed home safely.
Busses: We understand that busses have been difficult this week, but we have seen major improvement in 3 days. I explained to a parent this week when the Richmond/ Rosenberg transportation department is using routers, supervisors, mechanics, and secretaries to run bus routes, they are doing the best with what they have. Please be patient as we work through this together.
Smart Tags: I have received numerous phone calls in concerns with Smart Tags. The district office has ordered one for each student at Polly Ryon. As soon as they arrive, we will distribute to your student. In the future, if a replacement is needed, the tag must be purchased for $5.
Cell phones: Your students have done a fantastic job with our cell phone policy. Kids are focused on their work, engaging in lessons, and having fun. I appreciate the parent support with this as we continue to focus on education and the learning process.
Testing: Over the next couple of weeks Polly Ryon will be conducting diagnostic tests for Science, Reading, and Math. This does not negatively impact your student's schedule, grades, or school day because we run them through the associated classes. All other classes will be functioning normally. The diagnostic purpose is to assess where your student is academically so we can speak to their educational needs and meet them accordingly.
Longhorn Spirit Wear: (From RCO): Our online spirit wear has officially ended! A big shout out to you, our Longhorn parents, for supporting Polly Ryon and our RCO. By purchasing merchandise, you have helped contribute to all of the fun and excitement our kids have in store! Orders have been placed and spirit wear will be delivered to your children as soon as we receive and sort them.
RCO Funds: Thank you to all of the RCO members. Your work and dedication to Polly Ryon is very much appreciated. Thank you for helping me make happy teachers...happy teachers make for happy students.
All-in-All, I can say without a doubt that this year is going to be great; we have the energy, the staff, the students, and the parents to make this Epic for our 6th graders. I hope everyone has a tremendous weekend.
Principal,
Kevin Croft
