Beginning of the Year PD Reminders

Welcome Back Everyone! Just a few reminders for both our school based and ESF users.

  • Close out any summer PD you created. Make sure you see COMPLETE and CREDIT on the roster if the participant both attended AND completed their follow up implementation.
  • Make sure your teachers received credit for the District Inservice Day on August 4, 2022. High School and Middle School teachers should turn in their implementation forms to their schools for input. Elementary school Quad Leaders put in the credit for their participants.
  • Remind all of your teachers to check their in-service records at the beginning of the year to make sure they see all of their credits from summer.
  • For School Based Users, make sure all of your pre-planning PD has been closed out and teachers have received their credits.

Orientation & In-service Credits for Completing Orientation

Completing orientation is usually one of our first tasks when we start the new school year. Currently our evaluation plans for 2022-2023 are not available in ProGOE². Therefore, to complete this task, employees must go to our secure webpage to access the orientation materials. Once the 22-23 evaluation plans populate in ProGOE², users will then be able to complete all of the "green checkmarks" in their orientation tab on the evaluation. This is a required activity each school year. Until that time, please make sure your staff has completed the review of orientation materials.

New legislative changes to statute 1012.585(3)(g) allows districts to provide credit for trainings not linked to student learning one time during a teacher's validity period. We will be offering points to teachers starting their very first renewal cycle (July 1, 2022-June 30, 2027). Teachers with this certificate validity date have been notified directly, via email, their opportunity to receive points for orientation. Schools will no longer be responsible for the entry of orientation credit. Each subsequent year we will offer points to the next renewal cycle.

For any questions, please reach out to Lynnette Thorstensen in Professional Learning and Development.

Questions about the new renewal requirement for reading? Not sure about reading endorsement?

Click on the document below, the chart will assist teachers with their understanding of the Reading Endorsement Requirement (HB 7011) and the 40 Renewal Requirement in Reading/Students with Disabilities training (HB7069).

For those attending training outside of BPS this summer, it is time to submit those requests, through ProGOE². Here are the steps for submitting out of district training to our office:

At the conclusion of an inservice, it is the job of the ProGOE² Site Inservice Representative to go into ProGOE² and award attendance and credits for all participants. Every person on the roster MUST HAVE something in the REGISTRATION STATUS column and something in the GRADE column. Every person on the roster should have something in both columns. If they attended the workshop and stayed the entire length of time, then it should always be marked COMPLETE. If they did not show up you can mark them as NO SHOW or REQUESTED WITHDRAWAL depending on the circumstances. In the GRADE column, they either completed an implementation and earned a grade or they did not. There should be no grey area. Please make sure participants are not left hanging in courses, it can interfere with future course enrollments.

In addition, if someone received NO CREDIT in the grade column, please ALWAYS make sure to go to the CREDIT button and change their credits to ZERO. This important step can not be left out.

Please remind teachers to check their ProGOE² in-service records to make sure they have the required points for renewal. Teachers will need 120 total points, 20 of which need to be listed as SWD (Students with Disabilities). You will find a step by step guide by clicking here. If anyone is unsure how to determine their current points, please see the video below. It will explain how to access the credit bank within the in-service record to determine the usable points for the teacher's current validity period.

Charter school instructions for renewal can be found here.
