In the Spotlight
This week we are featuring PE, Grade 3, Jogafest, and Soccer @ CI
PE with Mr. Tronsgard
During the past few weeks in PE, our students have accomplished so much:
- The PK & K students focused on locomotor movement and explored different ways to move their bodies. They learned some fun new games and pushed themselves in the gym every single day
- The Grade 1 & 2 students finished off their swimming units this week. A large part of the focus was placed on them gaining comfort and confidence in the water. The first grade students were challenged to complete freestyle and backstroke laps using a kickboard, while the grade twos started to shed the kickboard and learned how to tread water.
- The Grade 3 & 4 students wrapped up their health units on food and nutrition. They focused on balanced meals, food groups, everyday food vs sometimes foods. The Grade 3’s capped off the unit with an in depth study of processed vs. unprocessed foods and the Grade 4’s completed a daily food journal to make sure they are maintaining a balanced diet.
Grade 3 with Ms. Minot
Grade 3 students were busy this week completing projects and showing what they have learned in term 1. In writing, students wrote about a small moment. We spent the majority of the term learning the writing process. We wrote drafts, added details, practiced editing and this week we worked on publishing our pieces. Students were able to choose how to publish their stories. Students made vlogs, postcards, emails, and slideshows to show their hard work!
Jog-A-Fest
CDS FP hosted the annual Jog-A-Thon & Fall Fest combined event (Jog-A-Fest) on Friday October 11th. It was amazing to see so many parents out joining in on the festivities. We have such a healthy community, as Grade 2-4 students and parents ran for 20 minutes and PK-1 students and parents ran for 10 minutes. Many of our students set challenging goals for themselves. Congratulations to all those students who achieved their goals. The students also had team time, participated in a scavenger hunt, filled in a Jog-A-Fest booklet and finished with a relay race. Overall the day was a huge success, thanks to the organization from the teachers, participation from the parents and energy from the students. The weather couldn’t have been better, as there were clear skies all day with plenty of sun. Great job CDS FP! We look forward to the 2020 Jog-A-Fest next year.
Soccer @ CI - 10 19
Thank you to our FP PTA to be there with drinks and food to support our Lil' Phoenix athletes! What matters most are your words of encouragement and praise for our little learners, and your support means the world to them ~
