May All-School FSC Meeting

Tuesday, May 17th, 6pm

300 Adelphi Street

NY

This last FSC meeting of the year will be a very important one as we are discussing funding priorities for next year, as well as the upcoming Eco Fair, Talent Show, and more!

Our community has grown so much that we will be holding the meeting in the school cafeteria! Please join us there for refreshments and mingling at 6pm, with the meeting starting at 6:30.

Childcare WILL be provided!

Eco Fair

Saturday, June 4th, 11am

300 Adelphi Street

NY

Our annual Eco Fair takes place in less than a month! This will be an awesome event with lots of fun activities, music, and a tag sale! This event is open to the public—please invite family, friends, and neighbors.

This year each classroom will plan and organize a different activity table at the Eco Fair. If you want to know what your class is doing or get involved in the planning, please contact your class parents/families.

There are lots of fun ways to be involved the day of the event! Please sign up to volunteer here.

Activity Table Donations: We are looking for materials to make found-object musical instruments. Please bring in bottle caps, corks, wooden chopsticks and small cardboard boxes and tubes. Please place these items in the bin in the community room marked "Eco Fair Recyclable Donations".

Tag Sale Donations: It's time to unleash your inner Marie Kondo and go through your closets! If you have any gently used, clean, clothes, shoes, books, toys, etc., please bring them to the Ronald Edmonds Playground (aka Compass Play Yard) the morning of the event. Items for children, men, and women are all welcome!

Please mark your calendars—you don't want to miss it!

Compass Talent Show!

Saturday, June 11th, 2:30pm

300 Adelphi Street

NY

If we've learned anything over the past couple of years, its that Compass kids are bright stars that need opportunities to shine! Now our children will have a chance to show off their talents at the school's very first talent show. No talent is too small...we welcome and encourage all kinds of acts!

You can submit an application for the talent show here.

We encourage group performances and would love for your child to team up with other kids from across the school. While we're certainly not expecting Broadway performances, we would prefer for the children to practice their acts a couple of times beforehand with parental supervision (nothing too intense). If you can't help with rehearsals, but your child would like to perform, let us know—we'll do our best to pair him or her with another group.

If you have any questions, or would like to volunteer your time, please contact Claudia (cmogel@gmail.com) or Abigail (amwalch@yahoo.com) directly.

April FSC Meeting

The FSC Leadership had a productive meeting on April 6th, 2016. We discussed school events, budgetary issues, volunteering overload, funding priorities, and more. Here are the minutes of our meeting.

The next all-school FSC meeting will take place on Tuesday, May 17th (please note the date has changed since last announced). For details on this meeting, see above.

The Spring Fling Was a Ton of Fun!

The Spring Fling was a great success--in every sense of the word! The music (all by Compass parents) was fantastic, the food was delicious, and the silent auction raised over $12,000 for music, arts, and after school scholarships at Compass!!

Thank you to the planners Dawn, Josh, Leigh, and Superstar Amanda, and all the volunteers for making this event such a great success! Thank you also to all the Compass parents who donated their time, expertise, or handmade goods as auction items. Special thanks to the amazing performers who volunteered their time and talent: Omer Avital, Greg Banks, Claudia Mogel, Brian Rosenworcel, Saskia Lane, Millie Benson, David McClelland, and Brian Billings
