U-2 Spy Plane Incident
Soviet shot down the American U-2 Spy plane in 1960. Cause tension between two countries, first ever spy swap with us and ussr. The capture pilot was suppose to be in jail for 10 years but luckily got out in 2 years for a swap. Cold War issue because USA and USSR had a good relationship until Soveit shot the U-2 breaking each other trust.
Bay of Pigs Invasion
USA invasion on Cuba to overthrow Castro power on April 1961. CIA sent 1,400 American troops.Once the troops arrived they where outnumber and soon surrender under 24 hours. All started because Castro sent his troops to overthrow General Fugenicio Batista on 1959 January 1. Cold War issue because when USA put an attack on Cuba it made USA and Cuba enemies making Cuba team up with the Soviet and making USA have more enemies.
Baby Boom
Baby Boom was a time where babies were born like crazy. Started 9 mouths after WWII, in 1946 their was 3.4 millions babies born, in 1947 their was another 3.8 million babies, and in 1952 another 3.9 were born. From 1954 To 1964 their was 4 million babies born every year. When everything start cooling down their was a total of 76.4 million babies boomer. Cold War issue because have to spent money on building new and more house for family and family can't spent to much money on war but on their family.
H-Bomb
In 1950, The Main focus in the Cold War was the Arm Race. When USA tested the first hydrogen bomb in 1952, the U.S. started beating the Soviet in the creation of the super bomb. Cold War issue because if Soviet or US create and launch the most nuclear bomb it could lead to splitting the earth in half, or exploding the world.
Fidel Castro
Castro is a Cuban leader who establish the first communist state in the western hemisphere. He lead an attack to overthrow Fulgencio Batista in 1959, and was successful. In his time of being a leader he lower racism and improve public health care. Castro was involved in The Bay of Pigs and the Cuban Missile Crisis. Issue to the Cold War beacuse Castro had caused 2 major battles during the Cold War; Bay of Pigs and Cuban Missile Crisis.
North and South Korea
On June 25, 1950 75,000 North Korean troops crossed the 38 parallel and attack South Korea, leading the the first military action during the Cold War. Soon later American troops join on the South Korea side and help. The battle was going no where, no land was lost and no land was gained, but their were many casualties. Issue to Cold War because this war could lead to WWIII.
John F. Kennedy
Kennedy was elected president on 1960 as the 35th president of the United States. He was the youngest president to this day, 43 years old. Kennedy grew tension between Cuba and Vietnam. This is an issue to the Cold War because it could lead to war in the future if tension grew to much against Cuba and Vietnam. On November 22, 1963 president Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas.
John McCarthy
McCarthy was a senator of Wisconsin, who lead the 2nd Red Scare. Where he point people out who he think was a spies and traitors, without any evidence. Many Americans were convinced because they know their were some communist spies and traitors in their government. Issue to Cold War because anyone who was convicted by McCarthy would be sent away and maybe be killed.
Space Race
Space Race was a competition against the Soviet and USA for supremacy in spaceflight. Although the Soviet got the first satellite and creature into space, the USA got the first human on the moon. Issue to the Cold War because if the Soviet launch a missile into space aiming at the US it could lead to chaos.
Dwight D. Eisenhower
Eisenhower was elected president on November 4, 1952. As the 34th president of the United States. During his time as president he force an anticommunist foreign policy and try to put an end to the Korean War. Dwight reaction to Cold War was immedently stop the Korean War.
Josef Stalin
Stalin was a leader of the Soviet Communist Party from 1922-1953, first leader of the Soviet Russia. Ruling as a dictator for the next thirty years. Stalin made the Berlin wall to separate the east and west to push the anti communist line. Issue to Cold War Because tons of casualties occurred trying to cross the Berlin Wall, and caused the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Harry S. Truman
Truman became president on April 12, 1945, and became the 33rd president of the United States. During his time as president Truman made the Truman Doctrine which stated to aid any countries falling under communist. Issue to Cold War because Truman failed to lead the United States to victory in the Korean War.
