Are cigarettes addictive?

Yes, they are very addictive. Tobacco contains a naturally found drug called nicotine. At small amount, nicotine creates a pleasure feeling, causing the smoker to want more. It acts on the central nervous system and effects the users mood. However, researchers say with large amounts, nicotine can be as addictive a heroine or cocaine.

  • Bad taste in mouth
  • smelly hair/ clothes
  • lost athletic ability
  • damaged respiratory system
  • nicotine addiction
  • decreased lung capacity
  • limited lung growth/function
  • elevated heart rate
  • chronic cough

  • cancer
  • lung disease
  • reproductive damage
  • birth defects
  • other damage
