Pear Deck For Your Slide Deck
Using presentations for content is sometimes an essential component in the classroom, but it is so one-sided. Well, you can change that by making your Slide Decks (Slides Presentations) interactive! Pear Deck is an interactive presentation tool used to actively engage students in individual and social learning. Teachers create presentations using their Google Drive account and use the FREE add on tool to insert questions or tasks. You can insert writing prompts, multiple choice questions, number responses, performance tasks for drawing and dragging (great for maps), as well as embedding website content for viewing and interaction. Not only can you create teacher-led presentations, but you can give your students agency over their own learning and create student-paced presentations!
To get Pear Deck, you simply open or create a new Slide Deck, click the ‘Add-ons’ tab, then ‘Get add-ons’ selection from the menu. This will open up the G-Suite Marketplace, where you search for Pear Deck by name and add-on to your G-Suite account.
To use Pear Deck, you click the ‘Add-ons’ tab, drag your cursor over ‘Pear Deck’ and then select ‘Open Pear Deck add-on from the secondary menu window. This will launch Pear Deck, which opens an elongated window on the right hand side of your Slides presentation. It is in that window that you can choose what types of questions you want to put into your slide deck and where within your presentation you want to place them. You can even save student answers to review or to share with your other classes!
