Westwood Families,
Welcome back to school to all our students and families. Day one was a success! Students were eager to come into school, start their classes, and talk with and make new friends. Throughout the day students were engaged in a variety of getting to know you activities. It was fun to see students sharing about their summer.
Here are a few important announcements and updates for today:
- Student drop off: Grades 7 and 8 – Students can start entering the building at 7:15 a.m. – and will wait in the locker bay area until 7:35 a.m. when they are dismissed to first period. Grades 5 and 6 – Students can start entering the building at 8:20 a.m. and will go directly to class when school starts at 8:40 a.m.
- Face masks: In grades 5 and 6, masks are required for students when inside the building, except at lunch. Masks are strongly recommended for grades 7 and 8 especially as Anoka County COVID-19 transmission rates remain high. It is important that students are following these safety measures, so we are able to maintain in-person learning for all students at Westwood.
- iPads – grade 5 exchange: Grade 5 students will be exchanging their current iPad for a new model tomorrow, Thursday, September 9. Please make sure your students brings in their iPad and charger (missing chargers are a $20). There are steps to follow to back up the documents and pictures on iCloud (this is optional). Students will wipe their iPad prior to receiving a new one. Visit the iPad Resource Hub for details and information regarding iPads for this school year.
Each Wednesday during the school year watch for this Westwood newsletter. This is where you will find updates on learning, important information for families, and need to know items for upcoming events.
Thanks for your patience and understanding as we begin new routines and navigate a new school year.

Voluntary, free COVID-19 testing
Voluntary COVID-19 testing will be offered every other week at Spring Lake Park Schools. Students whose families wish them to complete a test may stop by the health office in their school building on scheduled test days to pick up a test kit. Saliva tests will be taken home and completed online via Zoom with a Vault supervisor. Test kits will then be returned to the health office the next day for shipment to the lab. Late test kits cannot be accepted. Instructions on how to login to Zoom are included with each test kit. The first test day is Monday, September 13.
Please contact the Lead Nurse, Becca Williams, with any questions.
