Important Information for the Week
IEP's
We're almost there! I’ve reviewed and signed about half of our IEP's now.... only another day and they all must be consulted on with parents, signed and in OSRs. Then the real work begins! If you have any questions about how to track and monitor IEP goals, please book a time to see Christine or Keri.
School Improvement Plan and Staff Meeting
At our Staff Meeting we will be reviewing your pre-data that you’ve collected on number concepts and representation. A reminder to please bring your pre-assessment data to our meeting (2 copies please....one for you and one to give to me). For each student you need to have a level score for their understanding of number concept and a second level score for representation.
OPHEA Healthy Schools Certification
Are you passionate about promoting physical and mental health? Are you looking for a way to increase student leadership in our school and highlight the amazing things we are doing in these areas? Then maybe leading Ganaraska Trail towards OPHEA Healthy Schools Certification is for you! Steve and I are both very interested in supporting this initiative....and OPHEA has made it very user friendly. If I’ve peaked your interest at all - let’s chat! Deadline to apply is October 26th....
Attendance and Supervision
A reminder to please ensure you complete your student attendance promptly at the start of the day and at 1:40pm. Every day, Ruth is calling in to between 2 and 8 classes when people forget. This interrupts your teaching, interrupts student learning and puts a heavier load on Ruth's shoulders. If you think you'll forget - how about a student to remind you? Set an alarm on an iPad? Please help us to get attendance done as efficiently as possible. Also a reminder that it is imperative that you are ready for duty when it first starts. Arriving 5 minutes late is enough time for an incident to happen and you are legally responsible during that time. If there is an issue and you cannot be on duty promptly, please make sure we know in the office so we can problem solve how to support.
Safety Plans
We are missing 1 of our 3 Safety Plan purple binders in the office. The signatures that have been collected, not to mention the confidential info in the binders is very important and we need to get this missing binder back to the office. Please help!
School Photos
We were given 3 gift certificates from Edge Imaging for families who may not be able to afford school pictures themselves. If you have a student in mind that might benefit from one of these certificates, please let me know.
Bus Evacuation Drills
On Tuesday morning we will have classes go out to the bus loading area for evacuation drills. They should only take about 10 minutes or so per class. Four classes will be called out at a time - starting with our youngest students and moving up the grades. When your class is called, please have them change into outdoor shoes, put on coats, and meet me out by the bus loading area. We hope all drills will be finished by 10:40am, but a few groups may need to go after the break.
Staff and School Morale
We have two committees for morale (student and staff) and we've been working hard to get some exciting things underway to support school spirit and fun! Please see the poll in our Edsby Staff Room about attending an Oshawa Generals game together in January. If there is enough interest, we'll go ahead and book the box. We'll also be starting a “You’ve been boo'd” activity this week. When you get “boo'd” please make sure you pass it along! Finally - a reminder that the first annual Halloween door decorating contest has been launched. Over the next two weeks get those spooky, scary doors up for all to see!
Parents - Peek at the Week
Starting next Monday (October 22nd) I will be providing a "Peek at the Week" to all parents on a weekly basis. The format will be similar to the one I'm using here for our Week at a Glance.... important dates, photos, info, etc. If you have anything you think should be shared, please let me know. You have a new chance each week to get info out to the whole school! A reminder that this is in addition to what you are already communicating to parents about what students are learning and focusing on in your classes. Many of you are using Remind or Seesaw for regular updates, but don't forget about letting parents in on our learning!
