Dear Awbrey Park Families,


The end of the school year is just around the corner and we have an exciting last few weeks of school! Please be sure to look at our school events and activities calendar above for field trip information and other important dates. If you are interested in volunteering for one of our end of the year field trips, please be sure to contact your child’s teacher and visit the 4J volunteer website for more information.


I also want to extend a special thank you to all the students and families who attended our annual Awbrey Park Art Show last week. We had a great turn out and it was exciting to see all the amazing art work created by our students. Teachers will be sending home student art work this week for families to enjoy at home.

5th Grade Outdoor School

5th grade outdoor school is here! Coyote Outdoor School will be held at Camp Lutherwood on May 15th - 17th from 9:30am-5:00pm (students will return to school at 1:00pm on Wednesday, May 17th). If you have not done so already, please be sure to complete the required 4J permission form at your earliest convenience.

Awbrey Park Kindergarten Play Dates!

Do you have a kindergarten student starting at Awbrey Park this fall? If so, join us for our kindergarten play dates May 24th & June 7th to meet other incoming kindergarten students and families!

Parent & Family Engagement Survey (REPEAT)

We would love to hear from you! We are looking for your feedback to improve our school and district systems. Please complete the survey below which asks for your input on how we communicate with you about your student’s progress, our school’s climate and culture, and opportunities for parent involvement. As we are in the process of drafting our new school improvement plan, your feedback will help inform our goals around these three areas. Thank you for your time!


State Testing Tips & Reminders

State testing will continue this week and conclude the week of May 22nd.


May 8th - 12th: 3rd - 5th Grade ELA Testing

May 22nd - May 26th: 5th Grade Science Testing


Consistent routines are important to student success at school. Nutritious meals, rest and positive communication are essential to supporting your child during this time. Thank you for your ongoing support in these efforts!

State Testing Notice (REPEAT)

Each spring our 3rd-5th grade students participate in state assessments in English Language Arts, Math, and Science (5th grade only). These tests occur during the regular school day and students are encouraged to take their time to do their best to demonstrate what they have learned in the past year.


Please click on the following link to learn more about each test and the opt-out/exemption process. Families wishing to opt-out of statewide testing must complete the required form/exemption process in the link above and turn it into the school office by May 22nd.

2023-24 YMCA Child Care Registration (REPEAT)

The YMCA will begin registration for their 2023 summer camp and the 2023-24 school year on Monday, Monday, April 24th for currently enrolled families and Monday, May 1st for the Awbrey Park community.

4J District Kindergarten Event

Eugene School District 4J welcomes families who will have an incoming kindergarten aged student to join us for a special Welcome to Kindergarten Event on Friday, May 19, 2023 from 5:00-7:00 pm. We invite students and their families to join us for this fun filled evening. Click on the flyer below for more information. We hope to see you there!

Move EUG Community Planning Project

The City of Eugene Transportation Planning Team wants to hear from you! Do you walk, bike, or take the bus to get around? Do you have safety concerns when walking, biking or driving a car? If so, visit the Move EUG Engage Eugene page to share your transportation project ideas via an interactive map, and take a survey about your experiences while walking and biking in town. If you’d like to share your challenges and ideas in-person, attend one of the many events this spring, all listed on Engage Eugene.

2023-24 School Calendar Adopted (REPEAT)

The 4J school board has officially approved the academic calendars for the 2023-24 school year. See some key dates below and a one-page printable version here!


Key dates for 2023–24 include:

  • First day of school for grades K, 6 & 9: Wednesday, Sept. 6
  • First day of school for all other grades: Thursday, Sept. 7
  • Thanksgiving Break: Thursday, November 23–Friday, November 24
  • Winter Break: Mon., December 18–Friday, December 31 + Tue., January 2 (staff work day)
  • Spring Break: Mon., March 25–Fri., March 29 + Mon., April 1 (staff work day)
  • Last Day of School: Thursday, June 13 (or later if weather makeup days are needed)
