In Martinique, they have yoles rondes or gommiers. These are fishing boats that they use for racing also. People from all over the world come to watch the races.


People speak french and creole, a mix of french and African. This is their official language.


Carnival is a popular tradition in french speaking places. There are parades, music and dancing. Queens are elected. Mock weddings are held and much more all on the streets of Martinique.

Music and dance are very important cultural aspects. The music was brought in by the African slaves. This style of music and dance is still celebrated in Martinique.
