What was a dugout?
A dugout was a shelter for humans based on a hole or depression in the ground. They were mainly completely underground. They were sometimes dug into hillsides. They had flat rooftops covered by earth. They were also be semi-underground, with a constructed wood or sod roof standing out.
Who invented the dugout?
There was no original dugout inventor. The settlers just started doing it.
How did it help?
It gave settlers a place to live. They were cool in the summer and warm in the winter
