March 2023 MISD Connect Newsletter
Welcome to the Midlothian ISD 2022-23 Monthly Newsletter. Midlothian ISD will send a monthly newsletter during the 2022-23 school year. This newsletter will come to you during the first week of each month. Campuses send out a weekly newsletter and will have district news in their email.
Happy March!
Don't miss your chance to see what is happening around Midlothian ISD in March. You can view the district calendar by visiting https://www.misd.gs/about/misd-calendar. To learn even more about what is happening in our district, download the MISD Super Fan App to your phone to see the district's athletic, fine arts, and campus events. You also have access to team rosters with this app! Check-in at events on the app and earn points. Get rewarded for being a super fan.
Spring Break
Spring Break is the week of March 13 through 17. We hope you enjoy this time with your families. Please note that MISD had enough minutes built into our 2022-23 calendar to accommodate the days we missed due to the bad weather event. Thus, students and staff will still have the days of Friday, March 10, and Monday, April 10, off from school. Please remember that Friday, April 7, is also a staff and student holiday.
In May, you can vote in an election for city officials, MISD School Board Trustees, and on the 2023 MISD Bond. MISD encourages you to register to vote so you can make your voice heard in May!
One Pill Can Kill Campaign
The Drug Enforcement Administration warns the American public of the alarming increase in the lethality and availability of fake prescription pills containing fentanyl and methamphetamine. International and domestic criminal drug networks are mass-producing fake pills, falsely marketing them as legitimate prescription pills, and killing unsuspecting Americans. These counterfeit pills are easy to purchase, widely available, and often contain deadly doses of fentanyl. Pills purchased outside a licensed pharmacy are illegal, dangerous, and potentially lethal. This alert does not apply to legitimate pharmaceutical medications prescribed by medical professionals and dispensed by pharmacists.
We want to be sure our parents know the dangers facing students so you can speak with your child about this danger. Below you will see a poster that will be displayed on secondary campuses in MISD. There is also a video that parents can watch that gives you additional resources. You will also find a fact sheet below outlining emojis that are often used to represent drugs. We hope these resources are helpful to you and your family.
Save The Date
Athletic Physicals are available on Saturday, April 15 and Saturday, April 22 to MISD students entering grades 7 through 12 for the next school year. We are also giving students an opportunity on Saturday, April 22 to get the immunizations they need for next year at a low cost. All details are in the two flyers below.
Project ADAM Heart Safe Schools
ALL MISD campuses have been recognized as a Project ADAM Heart Safe School. MISD is the 23rd school district to achieve the high standards of this program. Project ADAM began in 1999 after the death of Adam Lemel, a 17-year-old high school student from Whitefish Bay, WI, who collapsed and died while playing basketball. Adam suffered a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), in which ventricular fibrillation occurred, a condition in which the ventricles cannot pump blood into the body. Defibrillation, or an AED, could have saved his life. Project ADAM is committed to empowering schools and communities to prepare for and respond to sudden cardiac arrest. Thanks to Wendy Hein for organizing and leading the charge to align MISD system processes for our schools to be Project ADAM Heart Safe Schools. Congratulations!
Enrollment and ADA
Enrollment continues to climb in Midlothian ISD. As of today, we have 11,101 students enrolled in the district!

Clear Bag Guidelines
As you attend athletic events this year and events held in the auditorium, you will need to know the guidelines for clear bags. See the flyer below for more specifics or visit our website.
When to Use HEAR IT. SEE IT. STOP IT.
There are two great ways to report bullying and safety and security issues. One way is to contact campus administration directly and let them know the issue so they can fully investigate the matter. If you need to remain anonymous, then you can use the See IT Hear IT Stop IT tool available to staff, students, and families. This is also a great tool to use if it is after hours and you cannot contact an administrator directly. MISD encourages you to speak to an administrator whenever possible when there is a threat to student or staff safety or security.

MISD Visitor Procedures
MISD prioritizes the safety and security of our staff and students. We ask our MISD visitors to help us in the effort to keep kids as safe as possible. MISD appreciates your patience as we follow these procedures. To learn more about campus security and visitor guidelines, visit https://bit.ly/3QqqQzl.
Free and Reduced Meals
Schools now must transition back to requiring family applications for free and reduced-price meals to meet USDA requirements. Families are encouraged to complete the Application for Free and Reduced-Price School Meals and return the completed form to their campus. You can access the form to print by clicking here or you can apply online by clicking here. Visit our nutrition site to learn more about this program. (Spanish)
