Here's what's happening in MS this week!
April 3, 2018
Dear parents,
Welcome back from spring break!
SOCIAL STUDIES
6th Grade: We will be continuing our study of Culture by looking at how it evolves through time and spreads to different parts of the world.
7th Grade: We will be continuing our study of Culture by looking at how it evolves through time and spreads to different parts of the world.
8th Grade: Prior to Spring Break, the students studied geographical and historical content related to Indian Removal and the Trail of Tears under Andrew Jackson’s presidency. Next, the students will learn about the concept of Manifest Destiny, and the Mexican-American War.
MATH
6th Grade: 6th graders will continue working with percents, decimals and fractions this week. Examples include, if a sweater is $30 but it is on sale for 20% off, what is the discount? What is the new price for the sweater?
7th Grade: 7th graders will continue working on angle measures and finding special angle pairs this week.
8th Grade: 8th graders will be finishing our module on transformations this week and end with a test. They have been working hard at rotating, reflecting, and translating within a coordinate grid.
SCIENCE
6th Grade: Our next topic in Science 6 will be Energy. We will discuss the relationship of kinetic energy to the mass of an object and to the speed of an object through hands-on activities.
7th Grade: 7th graders will be starting a new unit on cell division. Why do organisms grow? Is it because their cells get bigger or because their cells multiply?
8th Grade: We will be highlighting several different areas of science in preparation for the science M-Step that the 8th graders will be taking in April. Our main focus, though, will be a review of Space Science (Earth-Sun-Moon system, scale of objects in our solar system, and the role of gravity in galaxies).
SINCERELY,
The Middle School Team
