Thurgood Marshall

Thurgood Marshall is perhaps best known as the first Black Supreme Court justice— and he played an instrumental role in promoting racial equality during the civil rights movement and throughout his entire career. Marshall represented and won more cases before the high court than any other person and many historians regard him as an influential figure in shaping important social policies and upholding laws to protect minorities.

Quote from Thurgood Marshall

"Where you see wrong or inequality or injustice, speak out, because this is your country. This is your democracy. Make it. Protect it. Pass it on."

Condoleezza Rice

Condoleezza "Condi" Rice is an American diplomat, political scientist, civil servant, and professor who is the current director of the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. Rice was the first female African-American secretary of state and the first woman to serve as National Security Advisor. Rice is also a very talented pianist who has performed at the Kennedy Center and for Queen Elizabeth.

Quote from Condoleezza Rice

"We need to move beyond the idea that girls can be leaders and create the expectation that they should be leaders."

Aaron Douglas

Aaron Douglas was a talented painter who was known to many as the father of Black American art. He was a major figure in the Harlem Renaissance which was a time when the creative talents of many Black artists were popularized in the thriving creative community of New York City and the nation.

Quote from Aaron Douglas

"Let's Sing It, Dance It, Write It, Paint It. Let's Do the Impossible."

Amanda Gorman

Amanda Gorman is an American poet and activist and the first person to be named National Youth Poet Laureate. Amanda writes powerful poems that tell important stories and encourage positive change. She was recently invited to recite poems at the Presidential Inauguration ceremony and as part of the Super Bowl.

Quote from Amanda Gorman

"For there is always light. If only we're brave enough to see it. If only we're brave enough to be it."
