Mental Health Matters: Conflict and Resolution
f asked to describe middle school, many people would likely talk about the drama kids face. We see conflict among our students all the time, and it doesn't have to be a bad thing. This is an important time for kids to practice resolving conflict in ways that are both peaceful and assertive. In other words, kids can learn not to harm or be harmed in the process of resolving conflict.
Unfortunately, when a person handles conflict poorly, they might become a doormat, unable to stick up for their needs, or a bulldozer, tearing others down to meet their own needs. Managing conflict effectively is one of the most important life skills we can teach kids.
