If you do not order a test, your child will not be tested. This weekly requirement may change in the future.

Message about PiE

Palo Alto Partners in Education (PiE) is an incredible partner of our school. Funding from PiE allows me to provide many more staff than our budget would otherwise allow. Because of donations to PiE, we can have our vital classroom aides and counseling program. PiE’s funding provides specialized art and music programs that enhance the academics for each student. The difference in the school with PiE’s support is remarkable. It would be a very different place without this additional funding.

To reach our school’s goal, we need 17 more families to make a gift. A donation, in any amount that is meaningful for your family, makes a difference to our community and our school.

If you have already donated to PiE this year, I appreciate your support. If you have not, I ask you to please consider making a donation now. If you donate or pledge by November 15th, your donation may be matched by a Challenge Grant. You can find out all the ways to make a contribution on PiE's website at: https://papie.org/donate/

Thank you for being a wonderful member of the Ohlone community!

The Empty Pot

At the end of last year, we read The Empty Pot by Demi as our Book of the Month. We planted seeds and took them home for the summer to care for. Below is a picture of a student's beautiful flowers that he grew! If you have pictures of your plant, I would love to see! Please email them to me :).

PAUSD Attendance Message

As attendance and mental health and wellbeing are a major priority for the district this year, we want to remind students and families of the importance of attending school when healthy enough to do so. Please be sure to take any family vacations during our scheduled breaks.

During this time, students may be experiencing high levels of stress and anxiety. We know that school demands can sometimes exacerbate these concerns. Please be aware that absences may be excused for both physical and mental health concerns. If your child is experiencing higher than normal anxiety or stress, please contact your site administrator. Parents/Guardians should notify the school when an illness prevents a student from attending school. If staff notice that either physical or mental health absences are frequent for a student missing school, you should expect to hear from an administrator on how the school can best support your child.

In the Library

Here are some of the wonderful things that were happening in the library during Unity Week. Thank you, Grace!

Students listened to books that focused on kindness, acceptance, empathy, and inclusion. For the 4/5 Cluster, Grace read, The Lunch Thief a Story of Hunger, Homelessness, and Friendship. They had a wonderful discussion on how not to make assumptions about people and seeing things through other’s point of view. The 2/3 Cluster listened to, What Happens Next. They discussed the difference between teasing and bullying behavior. They also reviewed how to be an Upstander and what to do if someone is being bullied. Finally, for the K/1 Cluster, Grace read Spaghetti in a Hot Dog Bun Having the Courage to be Who You Are. This helped students visually understand the effects of harmful words and behaviors. Grace used the wrinkled heart activity by Tracy Hoexter. Though this activity, students discussed how important it is to think about the words and things we do.

Spectra Art with 4/5

The picture below is an art project completed by 4/5 students that took 2 lesson periods (a whole month!). It's called Infinity Box inspired by the artist Yayoi Kusama and her philosophy on interconnectedness (from the "cells in our body to the stars in the universe"). Awesome! We love Teresa our Art Teacher!
