Overweight and Obesity
Connections with obesity patients
I know someone with this disease, not personally, but off of YouTube. His channel name is Boogie2988, he has over two million subscribers and he weighs in at around thirty eight stone, which converts to 532 pounds. He is overly obese, has diabetes, arthritis pain, and serious back pain. His mom and dad both died which got him overly depressed, so in his free time he would eat excessively. He currently makes a living off of YouTube, getting checks every month per view and ads on his videos. In a serious way, Steven also posts gaming controversial opinions and game updates; which has got him to even host game awards. I chose this topic because tons of my friends and family find him insanely funny, but our instant reaction was his size; so I chose this topic to conduct my research upon.
Body Systems Affected by Obesity
Obesity affects almost every major organ in the human body. It raises the risk of obtaining heart disease, and a major chance of a fatty liver. Excess fat in the body requires oxygen and nutrients to survive, which needs the blood vessels to circulate more blood to the fat tissue. Therefore the heart needs to pump more blood which adds pressure to the artery walls; which raises blood pressure.
How the Liver works Normally and with Obesity
The liver is a part of the body that works with other organs to absorb, digest, and process food. The primary job of the liver, is to act as a filter to the blood flowing in from the digestive tract. Now, a little fat in the liver is alright, but if the amount of fat is 5-10% of your liver’s weight; then you may be obese.
Who Gets it? What Gender gets it? What age gets it? What race gets it?
Obesity can happen to anyone, but someone can’t just start randomly gaining pounds, it has to actually be a habit of eating mass amounts and not exercising enough. Whether they are male or female-young or old-anyone can be obese. Race is not affected by obesity, meaning any person of any race can be obese.
How does this condition start in someone?
Poor diet and eating choices can lead to extra fat in the waist, such as consuming large amounts of unhealthy fast food that is processed. You may not think it, but drinking too much alcohol can lead to being overweight because it contains lots of calories; and if someone doesn’t burn those calories off, then they turn into fat.
How does someone get diagnosed with Obesity?
If a doctor ever tells a patient or person that they’re obese or overweight, it is serious. They say that because the risk of health problems such as high blood pressure and diabetes can be increased by being obese or overweight. A measurement called (BMI) body mass index is used by healthcare professionals to decide if someone is obese or not. BMI calculates using ones weight and height to assess the amount of body fat someone has.
Signs and symptoms
Doctors and health professionals use a measurement called body mass index that uses one’s weight and height to determine whether if someone is under or overweight.
Gaining weight is normally something that happens over time, usually people will feel their clothes feeling tight or hard to put on. Or noticing that they have fat around the waist, and also just simply looking at the sale and seeing that you’ve gained weight.
