A NOTE FROM MS. BOYLE
As we enter this second week of Advent it is important to take a moment to slow down and remember the reason for the season. Below there is a link to an Advent Calendar from the Catholic Courier. Each day has a different surprise and St. Louis actually had a special feature on November 30!
At St. Louis, students are remembering that we are getting ready for the birth of Jesus. Students are also remembering the importance of bringing holiday cheer to others. If possible, students can participate in some 'Christmas Kindness' by making a Christmas card for homebound St. Louis parishioners. Bring any made cards to the office with the label of 'Christmas Kindness' and the student's name.
This Tuesday, we have an open house for prospective families! This is an exciting opportunity to show off our school and help our community grow. Please help pass the word along to anyone you know who may be interested.
This Thursday we will 'live in faith' as we gather together for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. Our 3rd grade students will lead us in the Mass at 9:10 am. Families are welcome and can come right to the Church that morning.
I hope you have wonderful week!
Best,
Ms. Boyle

MISSION OF THE MONTH
For the month of December, SLS is filling holiday stockings for a youth in need at the Villa of Hope. In the past, families have filled over 180 stockings, and we are hoping we can do it again this year!
Thank you to those who are have already signed up to fill a stocking. They are due to the Main Office by Wednesday, December 14th.
OUTDOOR ATTIRE
Jackets, hats, mittens, snow pants, and boots are needed EACH DAY. Even if there is no snow on the ground these items help keep students warm as they are outside for an extended time during recess. Students may not be able to go out for recess if they do not have the proper attire.
Everything should be labeled to help students keep track of what is theirs.
PREK CHRISTMAS CONCERT
This Friday, December 9th, PreK will will have a Christmas Concert in the Church at 9:30 am. PreK families are welcome to attend! They do not need to stop in the Main Office and can head right to the Church for the event.
All PreK students are invited to be a part of the concert even if Friday is not a day they usually attend. Afterwards, PreK students who are not usually here on Friday will need to go home with family. Students who are here on Friday may be signed out early or may stay for the rest of a normal day.
PreK parents - please have your child dress in Christmas attire for the concert.
K5-2ND GRADE CHRISTMAS PAGEANT
At Unique Gifts from Luxurious Yarns (U.G.L.Y.), ugly is beautiful! At the factory of the world’s leading supplier of ugly Christmas sweaters, founder Sam Ebenezer pulls all the strings to make sure no stitch is dropped. With a huge order looming to get out the day before Christmas, the team of Bob Cratchit (“that’s pronounced Crochet”), Tiny Tom and others weave together a plan of attack, while Sam encounters three mysterious visitors who not only help overcome some ugly obstacles, but bring the beautiful good news of Christmas!

SLS WEBSITE UPDATE
NOTES FROM THE NURSE'S OFFICE
‘Housekeeping tips’: PLEASE SEND WITH YOUR CHILD(REN) OUTDOOR CLOTHING FOR FRIGID WEATHER!! The students will go outside for recess in the cold weather. SEND IN CHAP STICK for your child(ren). With the cold and dry air everyone’s lips are crack and sore. Please send in chap stick for desks and back packs. Feel free to send in simple (example Aquaphor, baby Dove, Aveeno) hand cream for your child to apply as needed.
Illnesses: Many students have been diagnosed with Flu and RSV in the recent weeks. These illness’s spread easily throughout a classroom during the contagious stage of the virus (the beginning when the runny nose, sneezing and cough appear). I ask that you continue to COVID-19 home test your child(ren) at the onset of any illness symptom. Students may return to school when they are fever free (without use of Tylenol/Advil/Motrin/Ibuprofen) for 24 hours AND SYMPTOMS ARE MOSTLY RESOLVED (example - frequent coughing mostly resolved).
Feel free to call me with questions 586-2299.
Annual ‘well child’ Physicals: Please send your most recent copy of doctor’s physicals to me. You can send them in an envelope, email me (and copy, attachment, etc.) at Bridget.Schalabba@dor.org.
Feel free to reach out to me with any questions,
Nurse Schalabba
FAITH FOR FAMILIES
Preparing our Hearts for Jesus
In this season of Advent we prepare our hearts for Jesus’s coming. Advent offers many opportunities to live out our faith within our families.
Advent calendars and books provide opportunities to learn more about the First Christmas. Tomie dePaola’s “The Night of Las Posadas” introduces a Spanish and Mexican tradition of a procession where a couple playing the parts of Mary and Joseph seek shelter for the birth of Jesus. In the home, our children can offer shelter to the Holy Family by keeping a small Nativity set or image of the Holy Family in their rooms to remind us to keep space in our hearts for Jesus.
PARISH CONNECTIONS - POWERS LIVE NATIVITY
On Wednesday, December 14th, all St. Louis Church families are invited to join at Powers Farm Market to witness the nativity story as you’ve never seen it before. Hear the nativity story as you stroll down a lighted trail through the woods. Hot cider or cocoa ,and cookies to follow, as well as a special performance by the St. Louis Choir.
We will be collecting Adult-size hats, gloves and mittens. Thank you for your support!
Kindly RSVP by Monday, December 5th so we are sure to have enough treats!
(but walk-ins are welcome)
