This is How We Lakeview

July Edition

Welcome to the 2020-2021 School Year

I am pretty sure that this summer has flown by for everyone! We have been busy preparing for the upcoming school year. The custodians have done an amazing job getting the school ready for the students to return. Enclosed is everything that we know of at this time. Please understand that things may change as we get more information and guidance from Governor DeWine and the Health Department. Hopefully, you watched the Board of Education meeting yesterday and know that we intend to start the school year in a hybrid model. This means that your student will attend school with a cohort (which will be roughly half the amount of students that we normally have in the building). Cohorts will be the same for families so if you have a student in another building they will all attend classes on the same day. Cohorts will attend either Monday/Tuesday or Thursday/Friday, with Wednesday being a virtual day for all students in the district. We are looking into how to get schedules/cohorts to families so please be patient with us. More details about the school day will look like will be forthcoming as soon as they are available. Also, please note that masks will be required for students who are riding the bus and in the school buildings, so please work with your student on the importance of wearing a mask for everyone's safety. As always, please contact the office if you have any questions.

Spirit Wear Fundraiser

Let's show our Lakeview Spirit this school year! We are offering online ordering and orders will be delivered to the school so that you do not have to pay for shipping. We are keeping it simple and have a short- and long-sleeve option as well as a hoodie. We have also added a panther mask due to the requirement for students to wear them in the building. Orders are due by July 23rd to ensure delivery at the beginning of August. Please follow the link for ordering information.

Please note, this is a one-time order, we will not being doing a second order and will not have extra panther masks on hand.

Return to School Plan - Flexible Learning 2.0

At the July 13 Board of Education meeting, the Board approved the 2020-21 “Flexible Learning 2.0” Back-To-School Plan as recommended by the district’s COVID-19 Task Force. The task force is comprised of administrators, two school board members, and union representatives.

Please keep in mind that the plan specifics continue to evolve and we know that there are many questions still to be answered. That’s why we’ve created a Q&A page to answer your questions about the plan. Staff will continue to update this Q&A page daily as the answers to more questions are determined. Additionally, you may submit your question(s) to Information about the Virtual Learning Academy is also available on the Q&A page. Please note that the deadline for the application is July 26th at 11:59 pm.

Immunization Requirements for 7th grade/new students

Remember that there is an immunization requirement for 7th graders. MCV4 is required before a student enters the junior high. The Ohio Department of Health provides the attached immunization summary for school attendance in Ohio. Please discuss this with your medical provider.

According to Board Policy 5320 and 5320 AG, immunizations in compliance with state law and the Ohio Department of Health are required for each student unless the parent(s) file an objection. The board of education also requires tuberculosis examinations in compliance with law.

Students new to Pickerington Schools must present written evidence of similar immunizations, or written evidence to indicate that they are in the process of receiving immunizations, to be completed no later than the day of entrance. Students failing to complete immunizations within 14 days after entering are not permitted to return to school.

The Franklin County Health Department offers immunization clinics throughout the school year. An up-to-date schedule is always available on the Franklin County Public Health website.

Recommended School Supplies

We know that some of you like to take advantage of the early Back to School Sales and have been waiting for supply lists. As a part to reopen school buildings, we are recommending that students carry a minimal amount of supplies. Keep in mind that your student will attend 6 different classes during the day and that these supplies are for personal use only as we are trying to limit shared supplies.

Thank you
