Ms. Hartman's 2nd Grade

All About Me...

My name is Amy Hartman and I am pleased to be your student's second grade teacher! I am a Dubuque native and I have been a part of the Dubuque Schools for the majority of my adult life. I was a Para Educator for fifteen years before returning to college in 2012 to become a teacher. I live with my fiance, my son, and our many pets. My interests include reading, art and great music and movies. I love spending time with my family and I LOVE all animals!

My Classroom

In My Classroom We Will...

BE KIND. I believe that one of the most important things we can learn is how to treat one another well and respect the commonalities and differences that each person brings to the classroom. Diversity will be welcome and valued!

DO OUR BEST. I believe that all people should do their best in all things at all times. I will support your student in striving for their own personal best, and I will give my best to your student!

LEARN. I believe that learning should be fun! I will encourage your student to ask questions and find answers. I will encourage them to be curious about the world around them and the history that lead us to where we are today!

READ. I will share literature with your student and encourage them to find literature that inspires them. I will share my passion for great books and help your student discover their inner reader!

HAVE FUN! I will do my best to make every day enjoyable and engaging for your student! I know that students do their best learning when they are also having fun. We will work hard, but we will have humor and enjoy each other while we make great accomplishments!

I will be assigning homework every evening! I understand that your student needs time to unwind and do activities other than school work, so the assignments will be brief! Your student will either be assigned a math review sheet or a spelling practice assignment that they will be able to do independently. There may be other assignments occasionally, but I will make my best effort to ensure that homework is reasonable!

Field Trips

We will be going on several field trips during our school year. I will send home information about each trip as it approaches! I have included the form that you will need to compete in order for your student to participate in these field trips. We appreciate any help you can offer in chaperoning or providing transportation! Our field trips will include...

  • Swiss Valley Park
  • The Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium
  • The Dubuque Retirement Community

These two simple rules will serve as the basis of a list of expectations that the students will help me generate on the first day of school. I feel that it is important for the students to contribute to the list of classroom rules so that we all start out on the same page and in agreement regarding how we will behave in our classroom. I firmly believe that if we are all kind and we all do our own personal best; we will already be doing everything we can to be successful!
