Q: What can you do to prepare high school students for careers?
A: Participate in Perkiomen Valley High School’s annual Career Fair on Wednesday, Nov. 11. This highly interactive, trade-show type of event allows students the opportunity to discuss with you topics like career paths, secondary education, growth in your fields and so much more. Our annual Career Fair helps our students explore a variety of career options while giving them a realistic picture of the job market and dispelling some career myths.

PV Post Prom Committee Clothing Drive Set for Oct. 25
The PV Post Prom Committee is partnering again with Impact Thrift Stores for the upcoming fall clothing drive, which will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25, at South Elementary School, 200 E. Third Ave., Trappe.
The clothing drive has expanded to include a number of other items in addition to attire, and all donated items will remain in the local community. The items that are being collected through the fall drive include:
- Men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing, belts, hats
- Shoes
- Handbags, backpacks, luggage
- Linens such as blankets, sheets, curtains, pillows, rugs
- Small housewares (dish sets, decorative items in good condition)
- Electronics (no TVs or computer monitors unless they are flat-screen)
- Costume jewelry
- Books, CDs, DVDs
To simplify the sorting process, please bag your items by the categories listed above and secure/tie. Smaller bags are appreciated. Volunteers are also appreciated! If you would like to assist with the clothing drive, please email Jill Tagert at sjjjtagert@comcast.net.
The PV Post Prom Committee receives money for every pound of donated items it collects, and the items go to people who need them instead of to waste. The PV Post Prom Committee funds, organizes and hosts the drug and alcohol-free Post Prom event every year at Perkiomen Valley High School in an effort to ensure the safety of students and the community during prom season. The event is FREE for students and open to all juniors and seniors, regardless of whether or not they attend the prom. This event relies solely on donations/fundraisers.
If you cannot make the clothing drive on Oct. 25, outdoor drop-off red metal bins are located at the following schools: Perkiomen Valley High School, 509 Gravel Pike, Collegeville; Evergreen Elementary School, 98 Kagey Road, Collegeville; Skippack Elementary School, 4081 Heckler Road, Collegeville; Perkiomen Valley Middle School West, 220 Big Road, Zieglersville; South Elementary School, 200 E. Third Ave., Trappe; and Schwenksville Elementary School, 55 Second Street, Schwenksville. The bins will be available until mid-December, and will then be removed for the winter season. They will be replaced again in the spring once the threat of winter weather has subsided.
Last fall, PV Post Prom collected over 49,000 pounds of donated items to help those in need.

"Music in the Valley" Show Planned for Oct. 24
On Saturday, Oct. 24, Perkiomen Valley High School will host 10 area high school marching bands at the annual "Music In The Valley" competition. Part of the Cavalcade of Bands Association schedule, "Music In The Valley" is the home exhibition opportunity for the Perkiomen Valley Marching Vikings, who compete in the Yankee Division.
This year's PV show is titled "BoxMusik," an original suite for marching bands featuring the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. The show is written and directed by PVHS Band Director David Overholtzer and a staff of music professionals overseeing winds, percussion, color guard and other sections. Thus far in the 2015 competitive season, the Marching Vikings have come in first place in three regional Cavalcade competitions, and are on their way to Championships next month.
Through year-round events like this show, the Cavalcade of Bands provides students with a broad array of educational opportunities for the development of abilities in music and the performing arts.
"Music In The Valley" starts at 6 p.m. on Oct. 24. The PV Marching Vikings will perform at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the gate for $10 (adults) and $7 (seniors and students). In addition, a Family Ticket is available for $30.
