Student Focus Group

This year at both the Middle School and High School we will be setting up Student Focus Groups.

  • Purpose:
    • Provide an opportunity for students and Administration to meet with the goal of making Godwin Heights Secondary Schools even better places to learn.
  • Who
    • Administration - Principal & Assistant Principal
    • The Instructional Specialists
    • Students
      • A sampling of students from all grades, with different genders, backgrounds, races/ethnicities, from different clubs, sports, and extracurriculars, with different circles of friends and different interests/personalities that represent the amazing diversity of our schools.
      • Students will have a chance to apply in Advisory with an accompanying lesson.
      • In the event of high interest, staff will have the opportunity to determine potential candidates.

    • What
      • Facilitated sessions allowing students to share their experiences at Godwin Heights about many different school-related topics.
      • Topics are data-driven and chosen based on building needs to improve learning and climate/culture:
        • Past examples include: school dances, family fun days, dress code, cell phones, off campus lunch, bullying, attendance/tardies, group work, etc.
      • Norms are followed and, all in attendance, presume positive intentions.
    • When
      • There will be 3 meetings for each building during the course of the year.
      • Our first meetings will take place on October 26.
