    MCC Project Link Intern

Please welcome Emily Mahon, known by her friends as "Punk". She is a graduate of La Vega High School. She particpated in NJROTC while in high school, and is now apart of Project Link at MCC. Emily is currently in her 2nd semester at MCC and is working towards her AA degree.

    What are your career goals?

I wish to become a politician. I plan on getting my basics done right here at MCC, then transfer to a four year university while working as a paralegal with my associates. Then I hope to get my bachelors in pre-law and go to law school to become a lawyer. I do not know what kind of lawyer I want to be yet.

What’s the coolest experience you have ever had?

The coolest experience I've ever had, was at a rock concert with my best friend. We saw two of our favorite groups and even saw a new one that later became a favorite.

What’s the coolest experience you have ever had?

Superhuman power that I would want would be to shape shift into anything I wanted. Whether it would be an animal or inanimate objects, I could become it by will.

What is one obstacle you are proud you have overcome?

An obstacle I have over come is my pride. I have never been able to ask for help when I need it. I have always been stubborn and tried to trudge through the issue on my own instead of asking for help like I should. Now that I have started school at MCC I have broken that habit, swallowed my pride and ask for help as needed.

This past Fall, Project Link at MCC had 190 students and Project Link at TSTC had 24 students who were eligible to participate in the program. Only 21 students at MCC and 1 student at TSTC selected to participate in Project Link at the college level. However, both MCC and TSTC are beginning to see a few students who did not participate last semester reach out for help. Both MCC and TSTC have been working on ways to identify the students within their schools systems, so when eligible Project Link students are referred for additional help they'll be referred to the Project Link team.

Currently, TSTC has 20 students who are still eligible to participate in Project Link. Mr. Chappell has two active students in the program and has conducted 9 meetings between the two students. MCC has 186 students eligible to participate in Project Link and 21 active students in the program. Mrs. James has conducted 29 meetings and 2 group meetings. This Spring the Project Link team at MCC and TSTC will be making site visits to La Vega and University High School to provide one-on-one advising for students of Project Link interested in (or committed to) attending MCC or TSTC.
