A Message from Mr. Kosal:

Together we make a family!

Greetings, MMS families! This is Mr. Patrick Kosal, your proud MMS principal. I truly hope everyone had an outstanding Spring Break! It's good for our students & staff alike to take some time to unwind and spend with family & friends. It allows us all to unplug and recharge for the last quarter of the school year.

Current 8th grade students received visits from the Mooresville High counselors this past week in their Social Studies classes. The MHS counselors gave some guidance and what requirements for graduation would be needed and students began working with MHS & MMS counselors in registering for next year's classes. 8th grade students that were absent or didn't register for any reason will be given a chance to do so early next week. Current 7th grade students will begin registering for MMS / SBMS classes in just a few weeks so stay tuned for that, parents!

Also, our spring sports season kicks off next week! Details are found below, but we hope our Red Imp families take advantage of some nice weather and come out to support MMS athletes in the coming months!

Here's what you'll find in this week's newsletter:

  • Information on 7th / 8th grade end-of-year Field Trip payments
  • NC Check In testing next week
  • EC family Transition Night - March 28th
  • top Exact Path trophy winners (February Imp Times)
  • PTSO announcements
  • Home athletics events coming up
  • Q3 report cards sent home 3/29/23
  • Viewing your student's Exact Path progress
  • free online tutoring for 8th grade Math / Science
  • CTE summer camp information (rising 9th graders)
  • MGSD Picnic at the Park - April 3rd
  • and more!

Thanks so much for reading, and I hope everyone has an enjoyable weekend!

Mooresville Middle School will administer its final round of NC Check In benchmark tests from March 21st - 23rd. 7th grade students take tests in both ELA and Math classes, while 8th grade students have ELA, Math, and Science tests. MMS will operate on our usual testing bell schedule, with 2 hours in the morning to test followed by students seeing all their teacher for shorter class periods.

Please help your students come to school rested and ready to show their knowledge on those days!

Exact Path Celebrations for February Trophies

7th Grade End of Year Field Trip (Whitewater Center)

On Tuesday, May 23rd, 7th grade students have an opportunity to participate in the end-of-year Field Trip to the National Whitewater Center in Charlotte. Field Trip permission trip forms were given to students in their Math classes today (Friday, 2/16/23). The cost for the trip (admission + all activities + charter bus) is $100 per student.

Money will begin to be collected on Monday, 2/19/23, in Ms. Coffey's classroom (202) from 7 - 7:30am. Money and permission slip forms will be collected until April 14th. Extra permission slips are found in Ms. Coffey's classroom also.

Students on the Loss of Privilege list for MMS on the date of the field trip will not be allowed to attend. LoP is assigned to students receiving OSS or three ISS consequences for poor behavior.

Please consider treating your Red Imp student to this fun activity to celebrate the end of 7th grade!

8th Grade End of Year Field Trip (Carowinds)

On Friday, May 19th, 8th grade students will be taking an optional trip to Carowinds for their year-end celebration. Permission slips for this trip were distributed to students in 7th period on Thursday & Friday of this past week.

Payments for this trip are $85 per student (covers charter bus + admission + lunch). Money will be collected in Ms. Mentzer's classroom (402) between 7 - 7:30am. Because no classes are on the 400 hallway until 9:00, students will need to make an E-hall pass to come see Ms. Mentzer from their 1st period.

Students on the Loss of Privilege list for MMS on the date of the field trip will not be allowed to attend. LoP is assigned to students receiving OSS or three ISS consequences for poor behavior.

This should be a fun way for 8th graders to celebrate the end of their middle school careers. We hope your 8th grader can come too!

Free Online Tutoring for Students

MGSD has partnered with North Carolina Virtual Public Schools' EDvantage program to offer Free Online Tutoring opportunities. Students enrolled in 8th grade Math, NC Math 1, or 8th grade Science can sign up for individual, 1:1 virtual sessions on Mondays-Thursdays between 4pm-7:30pm. Sessions last 30 minutes; sign up by using this link: http:bit.ly/MGSDtutoring

When they sign up, they will get an email from NCVPS with the link for their session, and a link to cancel or reschedule if needed. Please reinforce to students that they should be respectful of tutors' time and not be "no-shows" if they sign up for a time.

Students who do not have Internet access at home or need a quiet place to attend tutoring are welcome at the Selma Burke Community Center.

We hope your students will take advantage of this "EDvantage"!!

MMS Student Handbook

Please review the school policies & procedures of Mooresville Middle School ASAP. Thank you!

Are you a Motivator??

MMS is looking for Motivators for our 2022 - 2023 school year! If you are a parent, grandparent, or even community member with a heart for children, we want your help!

The Motivators are ways for family / community members to volunteer time during the school day to monitor hallways and our campus grounds while also getting to know MMS students and staff. We love to have extra adult presence in the building to support our students and help out when needed. If you have at least one hour a week, we would love to have you volunteer.

Email Ms. Brown for more information. kbrown@mgsd.k12.nc.us

How to alert MMS of a student absence:

The email address for parents to alert MMS about student absences is: MMSAttendance@MGSD.k12.nc.us

Parents can upload doctor's notes as well. We hope this process will be easier on everyone instead of always sending a note with the student that gets lost so easily!
