4th Grade NAEP Testing
February 5, 2019
Snowshoe 4th grade students will participate in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) next month. NAEP is the largest national representative and continuing assessment of what students know and can do in various subjects. NAEP is administered by the National Center for Education Statistics, within the U.S. Department of Education. NAEP is different from our state assessments because it is a common measure of achievement across the country. The results are released as The Nation's Report Card, which provides information about student achievement to educators, parents, policymakers, and the public.
LOST & FOUND
Our lost and found is not only overflowing, it's become a huge pile of unclaimed jackets, hats, gloves, boots, and much more! We know how much money you spend on keeping your child warm during the winter months, however it is impossible to return most of it to the rightful owner because there is no name written on the inside to identify it.
We need to get this pile under control soon by donating most of it to a good cause. Please have your child look through and claim what belongs to them and clearly write their name for identification if it's lost again. Thank you!
Jump Rope for Heart Fundraiser
Join our Heart Heroes by helping to raise funds for the American Heart Association! Our JRFH campaign will run from Jan. 14th thru Jan. 25th with students jumping rope during their gym time.
Fundraising packets were handed out to each student on Jan. 14th by Mrs. Westcott. For every $5 raised, your student could earn a Heart Heroes gift. Thank you for your support!
NYO Begins Jan. 22nd - Feb. 21st
NYO for 2nd - 5th Grade ONLY
If your student is selected to participate in NYO, practice days will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8-9a.m. The cost is $10 and there will be 2 competitions on Feb. 9th and Feb. 22nd-24th.
Contact Mrs. Westcott at cindi.westcott@matsuk12.us or call 352-9531 with any questions.

Resources for Being Informed at Snowshoe
Dear Parents - we make every effort to keep you informed of everything that is happening here at Snowshoe, from sending home this newsletter, posting on our Snowshoe website, sending emails with PDF's attached, and using Facebook social media. In addition, your child's teacher has an individual webpage and most of the time a class newsletter. Some things you can do to stay informed are:
- Read emails and text messages that are sent from the school right away.
- Keep your contact information up to date constantly so when we send messages out they reach you correctly.
- Ask your child if they have flyers or information for you? Thursday's are considered "mailbag" day here at school. We send all paper handouts home on one designated day to alleviate getting lots of individual flyers that can be lost.
- Check out our Snowshoe webpage at least once a week and if you're on Facebook "like" our page to stay connected.
In this day and age of everyone having access to either a smartphone, tablet or computer we have consistently tried to meet your needs to stay connected easily. We don't want you to miss a thing!
