Educating the WHOLE child!

Teaching Behavioral Skills

Teaching behavioral skills and expectations is a huge part of PBIS. Our goal is that at least 80% of our staff buy in to teaching behavior like we teach academics, and that 100% of our staff actually do it. The below link is an article that differentiates between telling a student the expectations, and actually teaching the expectations. Please take time to read it!

Benchmarks of Quality (BoQ)

The window for the Benchmarks of Quality (BoQ) is open until April 30! I was mistaken in the previous newsletter as I said the window closed on March 31. If you are still in the process of taking the survey, you have until the end of this month! I am really sorry for this mistake. Upon completion of the BoQ, please share the results with your Tier 1 team and staff. In addition, use the information obtained to celebrate successes and action plan for next year. It is very valuable information.

PBIS School of Merit and School of Distinction

The application window is still open until 5:00PM on April 27 to apply for the PBIS School of Merit and School of Distinction. You will need your BoQ score for the application. You will also need 3 years of achievement data for a given grade level. I know this has come up as a concern because the district did not use MAPS testing this school year. My suggestion is to use other academic data that your building has used for the past 3 years (DRA) or use 2 different data sources and make a note of the change the district has made. Your school psychologists and building principal are great resources to help with this part of the application!

Wisconsin PBIS Leadership Conference

The Wisconsin PBIS Leadership Conference will be held Tuesday, August 16 - Wednesday, August 17. Pre-conference is Monday, August 15. The conference is at the Kalahari Resort and Conference Center in Wisconsin Dells. I received an email that the conference is filling up faster than than ever.

The district will reimburse your building a set amount (TBD) toward the conference. So, register the staff who will be attending (if any) from your building, along with booking the hotel room. Last year the reimbursement from the district PBIS budget was $300/building. Any costs above this $300 will be paid from your building budget.

If your school is awarded the School of Distinction, you earn one free registration (will be refunded the registration if registered prior to notification of earning the School of Distinction)!

... to fill out your Tier 2 Automated Tracking Tool from previous months. Now that March is over, make sure you fill it our for March and share this data with your Tier 2 Systems Team, your Tier 1 Team, and your staff! Develop an action plan if any of the interventions are seeing positive outcome below 70%.
