The Charger Connection

March 8, 2017 vol. 3 issue 10

Important Information

Central is a Title-I School. Parents of students in Title 1 schools have the right to know the status of their child’s teacher(s) in relation to being Highly Qualified.

Office Hours

Central's office hours are 7:00 – 3:00. No one is available to receive calls before or after this time. If you have an emergency after 3:00, please call the district's switchboard at 478-765-8711.

Parent Visitation Policy

State law requires that all persons visiting the school at any time and for any reason MUST report to the office to receive a visitors’ pass before entering a classroom. Visitors are required to show identification to the office staff. This is not to discourage visitation, but is a safety measure. Forgotten books, assignments, lunches, etc., may be left at the office for delivery to the classroom. If you desire to visit a classroom, we ask that you notify us 24 hours in advance, so that arrangements can be made with staff. All classroom visitors must be escorted by a school staff member.

Arrival to School

The school day begins at 7:30. We are cognizant of the fact that there are times that things happen in the morning that results in students coming to school late. However, when this happens, the student needs to be signed in by an adult. Moving forward, we will be administering disciplinary consequences (Saturday School) to students who are arriving to school after 8:00 if they are not signed into school by a parent. Students do not receive credit for classes in which they miss more than 10 days. The Saturday School Assignments will allow for the missed instructional time to be made up, thereby affording the student an opportunity to gain credit for the class.

Instructional Time

It is imperative that students are in class on time every day. When students are late, it not only affects their academic attainment, but it also affects the instructional environment of their peers. We have experienced an increased number of tardies since the beginning of the Spring Semester. We have developed incentives to reward students for attending each class on time. However, this has not had the effect on the number of tardies each period that we desired. As a result, more stringent tardy procedures have been instituted.

In an effort to protect the learning environment from constant interruptions, Tardy Sweeps will be conducted intermittently. Students found in the halls after the tardy bell rings will spend the remainder of the period in Tardy Detention. If the students have reached the appropriate Tardy threshold (5), they will be assigned to Saturday School. Failure to attend Saturday School will result in Out of School Suspension. Please encourage your child(ren) to get to each class on time. If this happens, they will experience only positive effects as a result.

Progress Assessments/Benchmarks/Half Day

Progress Assessments and Benchmarks will be given next week in all Milestone EOC courses. To accommodate this endeavor, we will be on a modified schedule. We also have a half day scheduled for March 15. The schedule is listed below.

Monday/Friday: 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th Periods
