Mustangs in the Middle : Week of October 12, 2020
From the desk of Mrs. Boytim, Principal of SMS
What a beautiful weekend we have ahead of us. I hope you and your family enjoy the weather and create time together.
Next week we are finalizing our plans for a safe transition into ALL-IN on October 19th. SMS has collaborated to create safe procedures for students and staff so that we can continue to prioritize our learning and growth. Please feel free to ask questions or address any concerns as we prepare next week. We appreciate your feedback and insight.
The last day of Quarter 1 grading period is October 16. Teachers have reached out to students and parents, conducted conferences and have made phone calls to help communicate individual areas of improvement and praise to help student success. Please reach out to your teachers with any questions or needs.
Next Friday, students will not follow our Blended Friday schedule, rather, they will access their Team Google Classroom and will interact with a prepared video and activity that our school counselors created to address social/emotional learning and education regarding anti-bullying. Students need to watch and complete their assignment by 11 a.m. on October 16 to earn attendance credit. More information and links to the team pages will be shared to students this week.
I hope this finds you well and again, I hope families have the chance to relax and enjoy time together this weekend. Thank you for a great week, SMS!

October 27 - SOLO Students Invited to Come to SMS for Pictures between 8:00am-12:00pm.
From Ripcho Studio:
The health of your students, staff and our employees is paramount in our procedures that we have put in place. Our new “No Touch” photography system has been received very well by our schools and has kept everyone involved, safe! We have put the following policies into place for our yearbook candid photographers while out on location:
- Our photographers will always wear a mask when at your school.
- All photographers temperatures are checked before they go to your school.
- Our photographers are instructed to not photograph group pictures due the CDC 6 ft. regulations that we as a company have to comply with.
- When our photographers enter a classroom, all students and teachers need to be wearing a mask according to the CDC guidelines.

School Lunch and Meal Service
What is Free in the Free Breakfast/Lunch Program?
Based on previous communications, we have shared the USDA Free Breakfast & Lunch Program for all students. I wanted to take this opportunity to clarify that the free lunch includes one entrée, a fresh fruit/vegetable, and a choice of milk. If a student selects any additional entrees or a la carte items (e.g., drinks, snacks, any other items considered as “extras,” etc.) that are not included as part of the free meal, s/he will be charged for these items.
Meal Service Available for SMS/SHS Students During Blended Learning.
For SMS/SHS students in Blended Learning during the next three (3) weeks, meals are available to families for the three (3) days students are engaged in remote learning at home. Weekly emails will be sent to SMS and SHS families and interested families will choose between a meal pick up date of either Wednesday at SMS from 1:15 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. or Friday at SHS from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
