B-C-S Board Welcomes Kindergarten Musicians

The Benton-Carroll-Salem Board of Education met for its Regular Monthly Board meeting on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at 5:30 PM. Mr. Keeton, B-C-S Treasurer, presented the monthly financial reports as well as changes to the 2019 Fiscal Year Appropriations.

Following the Treasurer’s Report, the Board heard from the District Highlight, which was from R.C. Waters Elementary School. The highlight was Kindergarten music students of teacher Mrs. Jackie Seibert. Using their instruments, the Kindergarten students highlighted how they incorporated learning how to read with their musicianship. Board member Mrs. Jamie Tooman commented that this was the best part of the meeting!

Under New Business, the Board approved payment to selected staff for the Kindergarten Information Night which was held on March 7, and Kindergarten Screening on April 15, 2019.

Two Memorandum of Understandings with the Oak Harbor Education Association were approved. One was an extension of the current Master Agreement to December 31, 2019, and the other was a change to the “Wellness Program” as written in the Master Agreement.

The Board accepted with gratitude a donation of $500.00 from the Oak Harbor Young Farmers to benefit the cafeteria helping fund account that will allow all students who need to use the fund the ability to do so without owing the borrowed funds back. It is expected that this donation will last through the end of the school year for the entire district!

A Resolution endorsing the Village of Oak Harbor’s Improvement Master Plan was approved. This Master Plan is to build a consensus on a clear community-wide vision for the improvements to the Village of Oak Harbor area enhancing the family-friendly and business-friendly quality of life, activities, and physical fitness. This plan has been recommended by the Oak Harbor Development Group, and was approved by the Village of Oak Harbor Council.

The next Regular Meeting of the B-C-S Board of Education will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at 6:00 PM at the Board of Education Office.
