February Edition
Which path will you take?
Find Joy in the Journey
Find the joy in the journey. There is no wrong choice. You just need to choose. Start somewhere. Head down one path - if it works, stay on it. If it doesn't, find another one. Sometimes we find our way, by going down a path that doesn't fit right. That's ok. Enjoy the process, trust that you are headed in the right direction for now. There is no straight path to success. Make a decision, choose your path. Commit to the college. Apply for the apprenticeship. Find the job. Trust the journey.
Local Scholarships
Each year, several Deerfield businesses and organizations generously offer a variety of scholarships for seniors. The Deerfield Local Scholarships will be available Friday Feb 29th. On Wednesday Feb 28th, Ms. Poirier will be explaining the application process to students during mentor time. If students are unable to attend, they should see her in the guidance office after Feb 29th for more information. All students planning to attend a two year or four campus are encouraged to apply. These scholarships will be due back no later than 3:00 on March 22nd. HERE is a link to the Deerfield Scholarship page where the local ones will be posted when the window opens. Now is a good time to start collection letters of recommendation, so you are ready!
College Placement Exams
Some colleges require you to take a placement test to determine what level courses you are prepared to take. Be sure to check with your college to find out if it is required. If it is required, it is possible to take the exam locally at the regional testing center, and have the results sent to your college. Be sure to find out what your college requires. Fun fact, if you are dissatisfied with your test scores, you are able to retake the exam in order to test into the courses you desire.

Where to look? Make an account on Indeed or something similar to search for specific jobs. Talk to people: parents, friends, relatives, teachers - do they know of places hiring? Go to the company or make a cold call to see if they have openings. Do a Google search for companies in the area in your "career" area of interest - reach out.
