Maui the Magnificent
Our production, Gobsmacked Maui the Magnificent, was a phenomenal success. The tamariki put in an immense amount of effort during practices and rehearsals to learn the songs, dances, and speaking parts. Congratulations to all the tamariki who took part. Maui the Magnificent allowed our students to truly shine and become Adventurous Learners on the grand stage.
Through the performing arts of music, dance, and drama, our tamariki learned how to express themselves and connect with their audience. It instilled courage in our students. While many of them initially felt nervous about performing in front of an audience, they bravely overcame their fears and delivered outstanding performances. By taking risks and stepping outside their comfort zones, they were able to develop their self-esteem and confidence.
Overall, Maui the Magnificent was an incredible learning experience for our students. They honed their skills as communicators, explorers, and team players. We are extremely proud of our students for their dedication and hard work in making this production a success.
Thanks to Patrice for all of her hard work and dedication to the performing arts and directing the entire show. Thank you also to all of our kaiako for helping with the practices and encouraging the tamariki along the way. Thanks to all of our parent community for helping to support your tamariki over the past few weeks and getting them to practice their dances and speaking parts at home. Lastly, thanks so much to everyone that attended the show. Your support is greatly appreciated!
Pick up and Drop off Bay
Thank you to all the parents that use the pick-up bay in the mornings and afternoons that have made an effort to drive to the far end before stopping to drop off or pick up your tamariki. This has helped with the flow of cars coming down Maxwells Road.
Recently we have had some parents parking in the staff car park on Pillans Road which is causing some health and safety risks for our tamariki that leave through that area of the school in the afternoon. Please find alternative parking outside of the school grounds. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in ensuring the safety of our learners.
Hero Finances
This year we have set up the Hero Finances section so that the school activities and school donation payments are spread out across the four terms. This enables parents to make partial payments throughout the year. You can pay all four instalments at once or do pay termly.
While school donations are entirely voluntary, we greatly value these contributions as they ensure we can continue to provide additional learning initiatives and resources. Some schools receive $150 per student from the government, unfortunately, Pillans Point School does not qualify for this. We appreciate the impacts of inflation and the cost of living on many families, however, if you are in a position to make a contribution, we would be very grateful. Any donation to the school over $5 is eligible for a 33% tax credit. Looking ahead, the board is also considering other funding opportunities, including a sponsorship programme. If your business would be interested in this, we would be open to discussing how we can showcase your brand while benefiting our school at the same time.
Welcome to Pillans Point
Welcome to our seven newest Pillans Point School students and their whānau that started last week in the Kea Whānau. It is great to see how well they have settled into school and begun their journey as Adventurous Learners. We look forward to another ten new entrant students starting the first day of Term 2. If you have any younger children that you have not yet enrolled that are due to start this year please go onto our website and complete the pre-enrolment form.

Arriving at Gate Pa School with excitement, the clouds drifted apart as the rotation started. As they counted down to one, the buckets filled with water within seconds. Cheering loudly, the audience curiously watched as they slid down the slippery slide, clutching the buckets in their hands. The slip-n-slide, slippery, long, and fun-looking, was set up down a very steep hill. When the whistle blew, the first rotation, 'the leaky bucket,' finished.
Speedily running to the next event, 'the pole balance,' the whistle blew again as the ice cream container got filled with water when it was put on a flat plank attached to a long skinny pole. The heavy container kept falling on the ground as they held the pole tightly in their hands. It didn't take long until they started getting the hang of it. Dropping the container in the big round bucket, it filled up quite quickly. The whistle loudly signalled the next rotation.
The next event, the hardest one of all, 'the railway track,' started with a loud countdown. As the big grey yoga ball rolled down the four pipes that were getting controlled by the team, it fell several times, but we managed to get it in the hole three times. Even though it didn't go as well as the other team, we kept on going until the whistle blew.
Smoothly, the needle went through one by one as 'thread the needle' started. Each time they went around, one girl and one boy dropped out and were replaced, making everyone have a turn. The chart board had ten nails sticking out as we put the hoops in each round, making nine hoops on the chart board.
After the forty-five-minute break ended, the team got charged up. As we smashed the other teams on the 'magic carpet,' we overpowered them. Pouring the water into the big bucket, the whistle blew again.
The last event was 'Big Foot.' We split up into teams of five. Falling over a couple of times on top of each other, we did manage to charge on and complete the course several times.
Finally, our day was over, and we all headed to the prize giving where they announced the winners. Sadly, we did not win. Extremely tired, we all set off home for a well-earned rest.
