September 24 Institute Day

Friday, September 24, is a Teacher Institute Day. Institute days are non-student attendance days. This is a great time for students to catch up on any missing work. Please encourage your child to log into PowerSchool to review posted grades for each class. Late or missing work may still be submitted for credit.

Quarter 1 Reminders

The last day of quarter 1 is October 22. All assignments, projects, makeups, and any items that are included in your child's final grade must be completed and submitted by Friday, October 15. Help your child succeed by having him/her regularly check PowerSchool to see all grading information (assignments, assessments, projects, etc.). Any assignments marked with an orange exclamation point (and score of 50%) are considered missing and should be completed and submitted to your child's teacher(s). Please make sure your child notifies any teachers of missing work that has been submitted for credit. As always, contact your child's teachers directly with any specific questions.

2021-2022 School Picture Day

Mark your calendars! School picture day is scheduled for Tuesday, October 5. Students will be called down, throughout the school day, to the main gym to take their photo.

Inclement Weather Plans

As we move into the fall, we want to share with students and families our AM arrival and lunch break plans for inclement weather days. Families can access that information here. The linked presentation will be reviewed with students periodically throughout the year during Advisory time. Parents/guardians: please remind your child of the expectations for proper mask wearing while at school. Masks should fit securely over your child's nose, mouth, and chin.

Health & Immunization Reminders

All 6th grade students, as well as newly enrolled 7th/8th grade students, are required to have a current physical and updated immunizations on file in the school Health Office before October 15. Students who do not have this information on file by the October 15 deadline will be excluded from school. Sixth graders are also required to turn in a completed dental exam by May 15, 2022. Forms can be found under the Health Services section on the District 45 website.

Any student interested in participating in Jackson athletics is required to have a current IHSA sports physical, completed by the parent/guardian and physician, on file in the Health Office. In addition, an Athletic Agreement, signed by both the student and parent/guardian with emergency contacts listed, must also be completed and submitted. Forms can be found under the Athletics section on the Jackson website.

Water Bottle Reminder

We want to remind families that students should bring a personal water bottle to school. Water bottles may be filled at water fill stations. Water fountains are not available. Other drinks and snacks are not allowed outside of lunch periods.

PowerSchool Parent Portal

PowerSchool is a proactive communication tool parents/guardians can use to stay informed about their child’s academic and work habits progress in school. Please click on this PowerSchool Parent/Guardian Quick Guide link for more information about how to navigate the PowerSchool portal. There is a mobile app version of the PowerSchool Portal for families. The interface of the mobile app is slightly different from the web version. A friendly reminder that it is the responsibility of a parent/guardian to contact Jackson in the event his/her child will be absent from school. Please plan to report your child’s absence, prior to 9:00 a.m., by calling our attendance line at 630-516-7368. Parents/guardians will leave a voicemail reporting their child’s absence. In the voicemail, please include the following information:

  • Child’s name and grade level

  • Date of absence

  • Reason for absence

Student absenteeism should be kept to the minimum; however, the School Board recognizes that some absences are unavoidable. The following are valid causes for a student's absence and will be considered “excused,” as specified in Section 26-2a of the Illinois School Code:

  • Illness

  • Observation of a religious holiday

  • Death in the immediate family

  • Family emergency

  • Other situations approved by the school principal
