Reopening Plan
Now that we have guidance from SCS, MSE is currently finalizing reopening plans for the 2020-21 school year, and we will also offer our students the choice between virtual and in-person schooling. Our priority continues to be keeping our families and staff as safe as possible during the upcoming year.
We intend to send out our final plans for reopening no later than 7/10. In that communication, we will include more details about options for students and a survey for families to make their choice for 2020-2021. All choices will need to be made by 7/20 so that we can assign teachers, prepare plans, and finalize device distribution. The decision you make will apply to the entire first semester; however, if a change needs to be made we will consider them on a case by case basis.
Please note, if you choose the in-person option, there is still a chance that, depending on mandates from the state and district, in-person instruction may shift to virtual based on the severity of the pandemic.
We are also planning several virtual sessions to answer parent questions about our plans. Those session dates will be included in next week's communication.
We know many of you are anxious about what next year will look like, and we want to reassure you that network and campus admins have been working hard all summer to make sure we have a successful 2020-2021 school year. The uncertainty is difficult for all of us but know that we are hard at work to make sure that our staff and students feel supported and safe no matter what ends up happening.
Calendar Update
MSE students are currently scheduled to come back on August 5. If this date changes, we will communicate with parents as soon as we know. If SCS pushes their start day back, we will push ours back.
Survey Results
Here are some key data points from the survey:
- Almost 80% of families support virtual learning.
- 76% of families say they would definitely or probably do online learning even if schools are open.
- 89% of parents say enhanced cleaning procedures are important in making them feel safe sending their child back to school.
Key Dates
- 7/10: Communication sent to families detailing the two options (in-person and virtual), including a survey to make your choice
- 7/20: All families must communicate their decision for the first semester of the 2020-2021 school year.
