From the Desk of Dr. Rodriguez
In exactly two months, students in kindergarten through fifth grade will take the Stanford Achievement Test, 10th Edition, also known as the SAT-10. This achievement test yields some important information for our school as we can see the progress students have made throughout the year. To prepare for the SAT-10, students will be practicing their test-taking skills and strategies by eliminating wrong answers; using text evidence to support their answer choices; interpreting graphs, charts, and tables; comparing and contrasting similarities and differences; and demonstrating their understanding and application of language and vocabulary. While an achievement test is an important part of a student's academic progress, it is not the only piece of the puzzle that we look at to determine content knowledge. Teacher observation, participation in lessons, completed classwork and assessments, and overall effort give us a much better picture of how much each student has truly learned during the school year. With a faculty and staff that is second to none, we are confident that our students will not only meet our expectations on the SAT-10, they will greatly surpass them -- as they have done each and every year.
Have a lovely long weekend, and be sure to read our next edition of Friday at 4:00 in one week!
Sincerely,
Dr. Rodriguez
Special Events and Friendly Reminders
Sweetness and Friendship and Kindness, Oh My!
Friendship was in the air all over the school this week, especially today. Although our usual Valentine's Day activities were paused this year due to the pandemic, we found alternative ways to celebrate the occasion. Students were caught red-handed writing valentines to family members and planning beautiful crafts to give to their parents as a token of their love and appreciation. It is always lovely to see the friendship and kindness students display toward one another, but make no mistake about it -- the friendship and kindness we saw today is commonplace at our school. After all, it is those traits, and so many wonderful others, that make Riviera what it is -- a family.
