Live Oak Students Are Talented!
We had a wonderful time seeing the beautiful self-portraits students made last month to showcase the things they like about themselves. Here are just a few examples of their incredible work.

This month our lesson focus is empathy. We are talking to all students about how they can identify someone else's feelings and then respond in a kind, helpful way. With kindergarten we are reading Words Are Not for Hurting and talking about the difference in how kind words vs. unkind words make us feel. We are also reminding students that even if you say "I'm sorry", the hurt of unkind words doesn't go away. In first and second grades, we are reading The Way I Feel, talking to students about a time that they have felt scared, angry, or sad, and how they would like to be treated when they felt that way. The students are completing a book to show how they can respond to a peer who is showing these emotions. In third through fifth grades, we are reading Those Shoes and talking to students about how they can try to understand someone else's situation, even if it is different from theirs.
