Caroline 2021 - 2022 Kickoff Video

A message from Interim Superintendent Derek L. Simmons:

In a 'normal' year, during the first week back for teachers, everyone gathers at one of the high school auditoriums for what we have always called the Opening Day Kickoff. The event is usually packed to capacity with teachers and administrators but because of the timing and capacity issues, we miss having our entire CCPS family all together in one place.

Something good comes out of everything and having to shift the Kickoff to a virtual format this year meant that we have a video that can be shared with everyone. Teachers and administrators were able to view it in school staff meetings last week, and it was shared via email with the entire CCPS staff this week.

Although the content was initially meant for our usual small audience, looking at the finished product made us want to share the stories told, along with the messages of support, with our entire community.

Many thanks to staff and community members for taking the time out to participate, and to videographer Chris Dorr for creating a memorable video.

Everyday Car Riders and Walkers

Students that will be car riders everyday will be dropped off and picked up in the side parking lot on Seward Road. Please remain in your cars and your child will be assisted into and from the building by staff members. Everyday car riders will receive a car rider application to complete. Once the form is completed, parents will receive a sun visor sign to hang up and assist during dismissal.

Everyday walkers will be dismissed from the media center this year. Parents will come to the area with the picnic tables to pick up their child. Please complete the EVERYDAY walker form that will be available. If your child is old enough to walk home on their own, parents will want to complete the EVERYDAY walker form as well. These students will be dismissed out of the front doors to travel home.

Pre-kindergarten

Pre-kindergarten teachers are continuing to contact individual families this week to touch base and provide information about the upcoming year.

We will hold a DRIVE THROUGH Pre-kindergarten Meet the Teacher Event on Tuesday, September 7th from 4:30 - 5:30 PM. Families may drive through the bus loop to see your pre-kindergarten teacher, drop off school supplies, and say "hello." Please remain in your car.

Pre-kindergarten will hold a VIRTUAL Orientation beginning at 2 PM on September 8th.

Pre-kindergarten students begin school on Thursday, September 9th. We are excited to welcome our youngest Terriers to school!!

Free Breakfast and Lunch for all students this year!

All students receive free breakfast and lunch this school year. Students are still welcome to pack a lunch.

Draft Reopening Plan and Survey

Posted on August 12, 2021

16 DRAFT Plan in PDF

Accessible View on CCPS Website

All Maryland school systems are required to provide a Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan (Reopening Plan) that addresses the reopening of schools for the 2021-2022 year. This plan must provide for the continuity of services that address and maintain the health and safety of students, educators, and staff. There are 11 requirements necessary for a complete plan that will be submitted to the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). The draft document is intended to provide an overview for public input. The final document will include more detailed information and reflect insight from our community survey.

We would appreciate you reading through the draft Reopening Plan and completing the survey that follows. Should you have any difficulty with the survey, please email PIO@ccpsstaff.org (Public Information Officer) for assistance.

Mask Information

August 17 News Release

Masks are required because we want our students to stay in school, in person. If a child is not wearing a mask and tests positive for COVID-19, the unvaccinated students around that child (masked or unmasked) are then required to be quarantined. However, if all students are masked and at least three feet apart in the classroom, only the child testing positive would miss school days. There may be other settings such as the bus or the cafeteria where physical distancing cannot be maintained. Our best chance at keeping classrooms and schools safe and open is to require everyone to wear masks and maintain three feet whenever possible.

Please visit the CCPS Back to School page which includes a Frequently Asked Question section about the mask requirement.
