*Note from the Head of Communications and Storytelling*
Welcome back to the re-vamped District 25 Dish. In this edition, you will find a letter from Dr. Bein that addresses safety practices, including an update on upcoming safety drills.
A video highlighting a new Elementary Writing Curriculum is below, and a few other stories that open that window of our classrooms to our community.
Since we last spoke, I experienced a title change and I'm happy it includes the word "storytelling". I find so much joy and am so grateful that I am trusted to tell our District's story every day, and it all starts with your kids.
Thank you, and click around, and enjoy!

Dear District 25 Families:
Each year, we work with the Arlington Heights Police Department to do several safety drills at each District 25 school. In addition to Fire Drills and Shelter-in-Place Drills, we practice Lockdown Drills. Staff and students are well versed in the steps to take during a lockdown drill. Typically, staff members guide students into a section of the classroom, and with lights out and doors locked, they help students sit silently until the drill has concluded.
Over the past several years, the Arlington Heights Police Department has varied the experiences our staff and students have during lockdown drills in order to help them think about the steps they should take. For example, lockdown drills have been held during lunch periods, during passing periods, or while students are outside at recess.
This spring, each of our schools will again participate in a lockdown drill. This drill, however, may be a little bit different. Our staff members have been experiencing training in Options-based Response. Basically, this means that if a staff member has specific information during a situation that convinces him/her that their students would be safer if they evacuated from their specific space, the adult could choose that response instead of the typical lockdown procedures.

Enjoy!
