Harpool 6th Grade Concert Choirs!

Take Birdville Hurricane Harbor Competition by STORM!

Friday, April 29th - 2016 - The Big Competition Day Arrives!

Today was a fantastic day for the 6th Grade HMS Choirs! We are so proud of their hard work and everything that they were able to accomplish.

The Birdville Competition:
This morning we loaded the bus... bright-eyed and bushy tailed! The girls and guys choirs were both VERY well-behaved and everyone arrived on time for their scheduled drop-off. This showed great responsibility and accountability!

Once we loaded the bus the students were quiet and showed wonderful manners to our two fantastic bus drivers who got us safely to and from Harpool to Birdville High School.

Upon arriving at Birdville High School, we were greeted by the competition staff who escorted our silent students into the lobby area. There they waited calmly with their hand resting lightly behind their backs in resolute posture to do their VERY best! They were very determined to show that Harpool is a force to be reckoned with. Many directors who are state representatives and nationally recognized high school choral directors were running the program and made note that our students were exceptionally prepared to perform and that their concert etiquette was unmatched.

The Concert Guys choir was the first to warm up. Our warm up room was down a long hallway and all of our wonderful young Harpool men were the most respectable and quietest in the hallway. They stood proudly waiting and upon entering the warm up room they sang out strong, with purpose and pride.

Our accompanist, Dr. Poche-Rodriguez was excited to hear them sing through their pieces! Once we got on stage - it was the guys turn to shine. They sang with enthusiasm and dedication to making the best possible group sound.

CONCERT GUYS PERFORMANCE LITERATURE:
"The Moon" by Andy Beck (2-Part)
"The Glory Train" by Jerry Estes (3-Part)
"The Vagabond" by Laura Farnell (Tenor/Bass)

The Concert judges were so impressed that they asked us to perform the last piece again a cappella style so that they could hear it without the piano so that they could hear it in their perfect range! It was a high compliment to the boys and they performed the last piece in the same style that they will sing as 7th and 8th Grade Choir members will do next year for UIL Competition.

CONCERT GUYS RATINGS:
The Concert Guys received straight 1 ratings from the judges, earning them a Superior trophy on behalf of Birdville/Hurricane Harbor Competition. These ratings are based on a I (Superior), II (Excellent), and III (Good) rating scale and also have additional numeric indicators for further delineation of marks. The additional number scale is 1-9, meaning that the students may earn a lower score for a higher award.

The closer that a choir can get to a 1.1 the better, but many choirs do not receive higher than a 1.5.

Our amazing Concert Guys received a 1.3, 1.2, and 1.2 ranking today! This is extremely high rating for this group and I am so proud of their work! Due to this low score - we will be attending the Awards Ceremony tomorrow at Hurricane Harbor since they will be in the running for Honorable Mention, Runner-Up in Class, or Overall Outstanding in Class Award!
