Robots on the Loose

We are thrilled to share that some of our robots are back in buildings!

Students in Studio 3 at EPiC Elementary did some exploring with Ozobots while learning about early European Explorers. Third graders study the routes that early explorers travel to discover new lands. The Ozobots were used to retrace these routes and helped teachers integrate some line coding into the lesson.

Kindergarteners at Franklin Elementary are integrating learning about fiction/nonfiction, the design process, and coding through traditional fairy tales. Students code the BeeBots to retell the events from the fairy tale helping them understand sequencing and practice communicating thoughts to others. Fourth graders began investigating Little Bits to better understand electrical circuits and hope to create some robots from their own designs in the future.

Several grades in our district PEAK program are working on individual projects that include our Lego robots. Many other grades in both buildings have plans to use our new Edison, Root, and Cubelet robots in the next few months. It's exciting to get the robots back into the hands of students!

Welcome Back

The STEAM Bus team is thrilled to welcome all students and staff back this year. It is nice to see student's faces and to work with our teachers again. Unfortunately, STEAM BUS visits are on hold for the time being. Our goal is to, possibly, resume visits in the spring depending on restrictions related to the virus at that time. If visits get to resume we will work closely with building principals and librarians to create a new schedule for STEAM Bus visits.

The STEAM Bus will continue to support staff in new ways. One way is through this newsletter that will be updated monthly.

The newsletter will:

  • communicate about resources
  • share STEAM ideas
  • report other news related to the STEAM Bus
Another way we anticipate supporting staff is to eventually check out STEAM Bus resources to teachers for use in the classroom. There will be more information about checking out resources in the future.

We are hopeful this will be a great year despite the changes and will continue to seek ways for connecting and supporting students and staff this year.

New to the STEAM Bus

We are so grateful to Liberty Foundation for their donation this year. The funds allowed us to update some of current resources like Ozobots and Breakout Kits. We were also able to purchase some new robots for the bus. Check them out below!
