St Cecilia's News
St Cecilia's Catholic Primary School - Christmas 2017
Happy Christmas and thank you
Our sales of 'flumpets' for St. Raphael's have raised two large tins of money, thanks again, we do not have a total as the tins are sealed! Any food that has been left over from the children's parties is being donated to the YMCA Centre for young homeless in Crawley, West Sussex. This centre specialises in working with youth aged 17 & 18 - they will love all the chocolate, Pringles and Haribos - especially at this time of year.
Thanks also for all the cards and presents for the staff, they are much appreciated. We return to school on Thursday 4th January 2018.
The staff and I wish you all a peaceful, happy and Holy Christmas with your family.

Sports News - netball
On the 30th November, St. Cecilia’s participated in a netball match against Manor Park Primary.
The anticipation was obvious; we were all so nervous yet excited about the match. The A team started with a strong line of defence. The ball was straight down to our end from our starting centre. We stayed in possession of the ball and it was down to our shooters to succeed in a 1-0 start, which they did. It was their centre, but we were too fast for them and had a second shot. It was soon half – time with a shocking score of 7-0. The game carried on and the other team didn’t get a touch of the ball. We finished with an astonishing score of 15-0.
It was the start of the B team’s match. There was much more competition with the ball zooming from one end to the other. There were many ups and downs but we were resilient and took a shot but unfortunately the scored stayed 0-0.
Supporting Catholic Schools in the future
Do you support Catholic schools and the right of Catholics to send their children to them? Then we need you to make your voice heard. The Government is making a critical decision
on whether to overturn the admission cap which prevents Catholic schools from allowing all Catholic pupils to attend. For new build Catholic Schools the 50% cap permits only 50% of the intake to be Catholic, the school is then open to others. This essentially means that in oversubscribed areas Catholics would be turned away from their local Catholic school.
They have acknowledged that this policy discriminates against Catholics and promised to abandon it, now we need you to tell them not to u-turn on their promise to Catholics.
Please visit http://catholicnews.org.uk/education-cap or search for ‘Catholic Education’ in your search engine to write to the Government and urge them to drop their policy which essentailly bans new Catholic schools.

Nativity at St Raphael's
Sheila Payne, Jubilee Centre Co-ordinator has written to say:
Dear St Cecilia’s children,
Thank you so much for visiting our Hospice and performing your wonderful Nativity. You were all absolute super stars and are a credit to your school. You should all be very proud of yourselves as I am sure your teachers are of you. It means so much to the Hospice and the patients of St Raphael’s to have you perform and has put us all in the Christmas mood.
Our thanks to St John Bosco for the wonderful gingerbread cookies. They looked amazing, tasted delicious and were enjoyed by all. Well done it was such a lovely gesture and a delightful surprise.
We wish you all a wonderful Christmas. Peace and blessings to you all.
