Build My Bookshelf

On Thursday April 6th volunteers from the Great Milwaukee and Waukesha County United Way provided each student at Hadfield with three new books that they took home to build their home library. Students were thrilled with the opportunity to pick out new books! Please see the link for the article that was in the Waukesha Freeman.

April Digital Citizenship

This month’s Digital Citizenship focus is on email and texting. Waukesha students have a school email account, and if your child is in 2nd grade or above, they are probably using email to get assignments and other information from their teachers and school principal. As our students begin to use email, please keep in mind the following guidelines to keep your child safe online. Parents, know your child’s school email account log in and password and check the email account every once in a while. Question contacts that you don’t recognize. If your child has begun texting, limit the amount of time your child spends texting friends. Encourage technology breaks. Require that your student share his messaging account log in and password with you, and periodically check the account. Remind your child what to do if they receive unkind or inappropriate messages or photos. Teach your child to think before emailing or texting!

Summer School

The summer school office emailed information regarding registration to all families on Thursday March 23rd. Unfortunately summer school is not at Hadfield this year but it is at Blair, Hawthorne, Heyer and Summit View schools. The dates for summer school are June 26th - July 21st with no school on July 3rd or July 4th.

Teacher recommendations for math and reading summer school were sent home this week so please ask your child if they received this form. If you have any questions regarding the recommendations please call Mrs. Roth at 262-970-1505.

When signing up for summer school classes the grade your child is in for the 2017-2018 school year is the grade you should use when determining class eligibility for the summer school course offerings.

Dealing with Discipline

Parents Place will be holding a Dealing with Discipline program at Hadfield on Monday April 24th. This event sponsored by the Boys & Girls Club will begin at 6:00pm - 7:30pm in the Hadfield Media Center. A free dinner at 5:30pm in the Hadfield gym will be provided and Boys & Girls Club is offering free childcare. A sign up form will be sent home in the next few weeks.

Forward Exam

This year, all Wisconsin students in grades 3-8 and 10 will once again participate in an assessment called the Forward Exam. These tests are designed to obtain important information about each student's achievement in the areas of math, science, social studies, english language arts: reading, writing and listening. In addition, these assessments will be a measure of state accountability for our school and our district. This year students at Hadfield will take the exam April 20th - April 28th. WEF Presents their 7th Annual Run/Walk

Join us for the 2017 Strive to Thrive! Proceeds from the Run/Walk are used to support the goals of the Waukesha Education Foundation (WEF). The WEF is dedicated to fostering innovation and creativity and providing enriching educational experiences and opportunities for students in the Waukesha Public Schools. Wisconsin’s inter-district public school open enrollment program allows parents to apply for their children to attend school districts other than the one in which they live. The open enrollment application period for the 2017-2018 school year is from February 1-April 29, 2017. The application period closes at 4:00 p.m. on April 28, 2017. Late applications will not be accepted for any reason.

Parents may apply in one of two ways:

  • On-line (recommend) at http://dpi.wi.gov/sms/psctoc.html

  • Although an on-line application is recommended, paper applications may be obtained from the Department of Public Instruction or any school district. Paper applications must be delivered to the nonresident school district. School District of Waukesha applications should be submitted attention to:

Who needs to complete this process:

  • Students currently attending a Waukesha school via Tuition Waiver for the 2016-2017 school year.

  • Students who have changed residency to a non-Waukesha address between September 1st and February 3rd.

  • Students planning to move into an address that is outside of the School District of Waukesha between February 1 and September 1, 2017; and wish to stay in the School District of Waukesha.

Note: families that move unexpectedly after April 28th are able to complete a Tuition Waiver form for the following year.
