Husky Happenings Family Edition
Week of February 28th
Husky Families-
I hope you were warm and toasty as we braved the freezing weather and school closing on Thursday. I am happy to say that our Huskies have been doing much better at not leaving our cafeteria such a mess during lunches and removing their hoods while in the hallways and common areas. It is very much appreciated by our staff and the administration. We will be continuing with assigned seating for a few more weeks, but have high hopes that we will be able to allow free seating soon. Today during lunches, I spoke to the students about their grades and the failure rate from the most recent grading period. I shared with them that they are expected to be in tutoring either before or after school if they are not passing their classes. I also shared that if our failure rate is not significantly lower by the time we return from Spring Break, that we would be implementing a No Phone Policy for the nex 9 weeks. Please encourage your students to turn in their assignments and attend tutoring with their teacher or in our Husky Help Center (M- TH 4:15- 5:30 pm)
Later in March, we will be taking an Interim Test across all grade levels for Reading and Math and in 8th grade only for Social Studies and Science. These pre- assessments help us predict to which students will be successful on STAAR in May and what areas we need to address prior to taking STAAR. Students who are not successful on the STAAR this year, will have 30 hours of required in-person summer tutoring per subject area. Please talk with your students about the importance of doing their best on these pre-assessments and the actual STAAR.
Don't forget Saturday, March 5th, we will be hosting our 2nd of 2 sessions of HB 4545 Math tutoring here at HFMS. If your student is a HB 4545 Math student, please make sure they attend for in-person support.
I am super excited to announce that HFMS is working with NCTC's TRIO program. This program begins working with students in middle school, supports them through High School and continues to support them while at NCTC. Come check out this program and how it can benefit your Husky. (TRIO Informational Meeting on March 1st at Hosted by the HFMS PTA ) See below for more information . All Huskies and or their families in attendance will receive a Bonus Restroom Pass!!
Hugs and High Fives and as always reachout if you need help.
"You Can't Hide That Husky Pride!!"

WELCOME NCTC'S TRIO PROGRAM TO HFMS
The TRIO Program at North Central Texas College is designed to provide students an equal opportunity to develop their talents and to achieve their academic and career goals. Funded through United States Department of Education grant, this TRIO Student Support Services program is available for students on Bowie, Corinth, Gainesville and Graham campuses.
The TRIO staff assists students to become academically successful, increasing their chances of staying in school and/or transferring to a four year institution. The program works closely with all Student Services Offices on campus to provide comprehensive support for students who are eligible. Services provided by the TRIO Program include: tutoring, academic, advising, career counseling, personal counseling, financial literacy information, and cultural enrichment activities.
Spring STAAR Interim
We will be conducting our Spring STAAR Interim Test on Friday, March 25th. We are asking that doctor's appointments NOT be made on this day if possible. The day will include a Math test and a Reading test. Students will be taking the test on their iPad, so please be sure to submit any work tickets and/or pay fines to allow them to have a working device for this day. Students will be taking one test from in the morning and one test in the afternoon, so it is imperative that they have a charger as well. This assessment is very important as it could effect the need for summer tutoring hours if students not successful. More detailed information will be coming soon!
HFMS Campus TAPR Report, Federal Report Card and School Report Card Now Available
The Texas Academic Performance Reports (TAPR) pull together a wide range of information on the performance of students in each school and district in Texas every year. Performance is shown disaggregated by student groups, including ethnicity and low income status. The reports also provide extensive information on school and district staff, programs, and student demographics.
The TAPRs were previously known as the Academic Excellence Indicator System (AEIS) Reports.
The most current report is now available on our website. If you would like a paper copy, we have them in the front office.

9th Grade Registration Update?
Counselor's Corner
Husky Parents,
We want your child to be successful in school, and that means supporting and encouraging their whole development. While excelling in academic classes is important, students also need skills for learning challenges, making good decisions, handling strong emotions, and getting along with others.
We will continue the Second Step® program during huddle this week for 6th and 7th, designed to improve students’ social-emotional skills, such as emotion management, impulse control, problem solving, and empathy by learning about trying new strategies, learning from mistakes, and their own interests and strengths. This week's lesson will focus on how emotions control decisions and thoughts. Please see this week’s Parent Letter, regarding our objectives.
8th Grade will focus on learning more about Course and Electives in High School and creating an academic and career goal.
Even if you missed last week, you can still register for the remaining classes for the districts' Love and Logic parenting resource opportunity! It is offered in English and Spanish through Webex. Please use the link below to register. This is a 3 week course that began February 22nd.
