Letter from Principal Rosenbach
Hello Centennial Families,
We are almost to the halfway point of the school year and are very excited with how the first half has gone. Overall, the students have been working hard and behaving well, so now we need to finish the first semester strong. Please have a conversation with your student(s) on the importance of completing the semester on a positive note. Encourage them to check their grades in Skyward. They should also be reaching out to their teachers on what they can do to finish in the best way possible.
A reminder that students do not have school on January 30th. This day in between semesters is a teacher workday to wrap up first semester and prepare for second semester. The first day of semester two will be Tuesday, January 31st and students will start their new schedule on that day. Please see below for more information regarding student schedules from our counseling department.
As we have gone deeper into this school year, we have seen an increase of parent traffic in the morning bus drop off area. The bus and parent drop off are designed to be in different areas to help with student safety. All families dropping in the morning please use the north drop area. See below for a visual and we thank you for your cooperation and helping our students stay safe.
Finally let me say how much of an honor it is to serve the students, staff, and families of Centennial. I enjoy coming to work at CMS every day. There is not much better than to see one of the students make a connection, learn something new, make a new friend, get supported by a staff member, or just smile and say good morning. I am grateful for your continued support of your student and CMS.

Tuesday, January 31Winter Sports Begin/Payment for Wrestling Opens
Tuesday, January 31, we will begin our winter sports, co-ed wrestling and girls basketball. Girls basketball will be a cut sport. If you have any questions, please come to the front office and talk with Mrs. Smith.
Both sports will begin Tuesday, January 31st.
Both sports end at Spring Break.
Wrestling payment will be available, January 31st.
Girls basketball payment will open after cuts are made.
Semester Two Schedule Information
Second semester schedules will be viewable in Skyward starting Monday January 23rd, and then students will receive a paper copy of their schedules on Thursday January 26th during Patriot Period.
Just a few reminders about schedules:
- Students will have the same teachers but different periods for all classes except math and language arts. This allows more students to receive the electives they chose.
- All students are required to take one semester of Health & Fitness.
- 7th grade students are required to take one semester of Character & Technology, but those classes are each a term-long (half of one semester) and they alternate.
Schedule change policy:
- We work very hard to make sure students receive the electives they requested, and to make sure classes are balanced and not overloaded. For that reason, we follow schedule change policy.
- There will be a clipboard in the Counseling Center during the first 3 days of second semester (January 31st-February 2nd)
- You can sign up on the clipboard before school, after school, or during lunch to possibly change your elective only.
- We will not be looking at schedule changes before February 2nd. Since most classes are full, we have to wait to see if anyone wants to swap classes with you. We will let you know whether or not we can accommodate your request by Friday Feb 3rd.

Grace Shivvers, 8th grade, has been awarded with an Honorable Mention at the Scholastic Art Awards for her ceramic artwork, Komorebi.
Grace's ceramic artwork will be on display at the Schack Art Center from January 24 - February 12.

Students to receive Panorama survey in spring
We will again be asking our 3rd through 12th grade students to participate in the Panorama survey for social-emotional learning. This survey was given to students last school year and in the fall 2022.
Panorama helps schools and districts transform their approach to education, so that every student thrives in school, every student benefits from an excellent education, and every student graduates prepared with the knowledge, skills, and mindsets they need to thrive in the modern, ever-changing world. Through our work to improve education, we help create a world where every child has equitable access to opportunities in school and in society more broadly. Panorama is a tool used by the district in conjunction with multiple other resources, such as attendance, behavior, grades, etc.
For elementary, the Panorama questions center on their current knowledge, how they feel about the school environment, and whether they have access to staff and resources to feel safe and successful. For secondary, the questions center on the same areas and further explore whether students feel they have the skills, opportunity, or ability for personal and academic growth along with social awareness and positive relationships. The survey window will be open during February. Survey results will be available in March after the survey window closes. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child's principal.
Our goal as a district and community is to ensure that each student feels safe, welcomed, and supported in our schools and while attending school activities. The information provided through this survey is one tool we can use to hear student voice and perspective. Other considerations will continue to include conversations with students, families, and staff along with monitoring of academic progress and social-emotional awareness. It is ok to not feel ok, but please know that there is help and support so that it does not have to remain that way.
