Types of Waves:

A wave is a repeating movement that sends energy through space and matter. A wave will only travel as long as it has energy to carry. A medium is the matter waves travel through. It can be a solid, liquid, gas, or a combination. In a transverse wave, matter in the medium moves back and forth at right angles to the direction that the wave travels. In a longitudinal or compressional wave, matter in the medium moves back and forth along the same direction that the wave travels.
