#ROCK Day! Next Friday, September 15 is a chance to show school spirit! For newbies, we know you don't own Red Rocks gear, yet! School colors are maroon, black, with white/grey alternates. Students will enjoy a special schedule around our annual student theme of "Reaching Out with Character and Kindness!" Other spirit days are scheduled, check out more here
Student leadership, and a "future focus," is an ongoing theme at Red Rocks. We speak to all grades informally about leadership (Who can be a leader?), and formal leadership is for 5th graders. Students are taught leadership principals, such as leaders observe, and leaders serve. Students have a chance to propose solutions and partner with younger students, such as line leaders, student council, peer mentors, and book buddies. We are proud of our future leaders!
Student leadership includes Book Buddies! A unique program, where classrooms partner together for ongoing mentoring from older to younger students. (see top pic) K/3, 1/4, and 2/5 partnerships are powerful! Classrooms connect about two times a month for shared learning and activities. Ask your child about their buddy!
Which staff oversee student leadership teams and which students are serving this year? Peer Mentor leadership is 4th grade team: Mrs. Ramos, Mr. Austin along with Mr. C. Student Council Leadership is headed up by 5th grade Dan Patterson along with Mr. Kemery. Student Council and Peer Mentors for 23-24 are listed here. Congrats to our students as they learn to look to the future.
Question: Why the closed gate by the music room and no access to the back? You might not know that Red Rocks is one of a few Jeffco schools with a significant portion of students in Temp buildings. In actuality, the area between the main building and kinder/5th grades is a hallway! Due to safety requirements we have reduced access to the area. Our PTA, SAC leaders, and others (like those who came to the Coffee on the Rocks), give input and ideas. We recognize that access to our campus is a part of the Red Rocks magic, and as we settle in with new routines we continue to look for options to keep our family culture strong. Thanks for your understanding.
