Principal's Corner

Greetings Spartan Scholars and Families,

Our Spartans are not exhibiting restlessness or excitement, symptoms of Spring Fever! Instead, positive behavior has become contagious. Every week, teachers and staff refer students who have that Spartan S.P.A.R.K. and model appropriate behavior. I look forward to Friday, when I announce their name, take a selfie, and drop a postcard in the mail!

Week of April 30

Saunders Elementary is a great place to learn and work! We are known for being a neighborhood school, home to the Dual Language Immersion (DLI) Program. Although, DLI makes us unique, what really makes us a great school are the teachers and staff. Please join me the week of May 7-May 11 to recognize our amazing team of educators and staff!

This Just In! Field Day Was So Much Fun!

This years field day was held on Monday, April 30 and students had a great time! Kindergarten-Third Grade had fun with Disney themed games, temporary tattoos, and photo-ops and a picnic style bag lunch throughout the morning. Our fourth and fifth graders enjoyed more challenging obstacle style games in the afternoon in an Amazing Race themed Field Day! Thank you to Coach Mulrine and Coach Williams for organizing the event for our students and to all of the parent volunteers and staff for working the games and making sure our students had a safe and special day to remember! #Spartansandtheirfamiliesrock!

Spartans love the Mariner's Museum and the Chesapeake Bay!

Mrs. Marushia's 5th grade TAG class had the opportunity to visit the Mariner's Museum and learn more about the Chesapeake Bay and how marine biologist use ROVs (remotely operated vehicles) to study the ecosystem and help clean up debris. The groups had the chance to create a design for their ROV and test it out to see if their designs were suitable for collecting trash and lost crab pots from the Bay. Thank you Mariner's Museum for such a fun hands-on learning experience!

Fifth-Graders really MATTER to our friends at Jefferson Lab!

The 5th Grade Students attended Physics Fest at Jefferson Lab, in order to review the states of matter and learn more about atomic structures. The scholars were able to see experiments with liquid nitrogen and plasma. Students witnessed freezing balloons and shattering flowers. Along with wearing special glasses that allowed them to see the different colors of the spectrum within a given object.
