Nuclear Weaponry and Power Hazards
Hazards
Chernobyl
The Chernobyl nuclear power plant sits crippled two to three days after the explosion in Chernobyl, Ukraine in April, 1986. In front of the chimney is the destroyed 4th reactor.
Hiroshima Bombing
In 1945, following Japans refusal of the Potsdam Declaration, American pilots dropped Little Boy on Hiroshima and killed nearly 80,000 people on impact.
Clean Nuclear Power
While Nuclear Power does pose a threat, it for the most part creates clean and carbon free energy.
Radioactive Saftey
Shielding
While you could go around wearing a lead jacket its not very practical.
Distance
Like most natural disasters, the father away you are, the less radiation you'll be exposed to.
Time
The less time you are exposed to radiation, the better off you will be.
Three Common Types of Radiation
Can Nuclear Power Help?
Solar Radiation
While not especially harmful, spending too much time out in the sun can cause serious burns and possibly cancer. Make sure to use protection.
Gamma Radiation
This is the type of radiation emitted from nuclear explosions. Avoid at all costs. It is extremely deadly and fatal.
